Artist Claire Hummel has fantastically done a historically accurate revision to some of our favorite Disney princesses. It's no secret that Disney took some liberties when designing their princesses. Artist Claire Hummel brings the princess back to their historical origins with awesome results.
1. Elsa from Frozen
The artist took the style of the dress from designs that Scandinavian royalty wore giving our queen a proper look.
2. Aurora from Sleeping Beauty
Prince Phillip's clothing is actually a pretty good representation of 14th century clothing as well.
3. Tiana from The Princess and the Frog
Here's Tiana from the roaring 20s in a very cute flapper dress. The artist confesses that the hem was a little higher than actual styles from the 20s, but she seldom had a chance to draw legs with historically accurate Disney Princesses.
4. Ariel from The Little Mermaid
Ariel's historically accurate wedding dress was based off styles from the late 1800s. And we love her great seaweed bouquet. Maybe that will become an actual thing?
5. Jasmine from Aladdin
This one is one of my favorites. Jasmine's outfit is based on Persian styles. She's dressed in a sirwal and a Perisian jacket.
6. Belle from Beauty and the Beast
Belle is redone to match the 1770s French high court fashion, and her expression matches the the haughtiness of her dress.
Mulan is dressed in a beautiful textured Hanfu with a more traditional interpretation of Mushu.
8. Snow White from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
This design is based off of styles from 16th century Germany.
There actually was a different version of this painting, but after hearing some feedback, Hummel revised it so that Pocahontas actually looks like a 12 year old.
10. Megara from Hercules
Meg is dressed in an outfit called a Doric Chiton it was one of the most common garments worn by both men and women in Greece during the sixth and early fifth centuries B.C.E
11. Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty
Ok, ok, so Maleficent isn't a Disney princess per say, But she's just too magnificent not to include.
