Have you ever been in that situation ? You know,- that situation where you kind of like a movie despite all it’s faults. But, hear nothing but negativity about it everywhere you turn, I've been in that situation. It leads to that slight awkwardness where you sit down with a couple of friends, and there just bashing at the movie and all you can do is bite your tongue because no matter how hard it is to admit they make some pretty good points ! ; I mean yeah it was bad, but it was also awesome ! I mean if that make sense. I’ll break it down, bit by bit !
“ Who watches the Watchmen “.. Well, I suppose I do apparently. I loved the movie, In fact, I loved it so much I bought the DVD. But, it did have it’s issues that just didn't go too well with the critiques. However, I really don’t blame the director Zack Snyder, it was something new. I think that's what I loved about it, it was intentionally a superhero movie. But, what would you normally expect from a team of superhero movie. A team of heroes team up, to face that one huge villain eventually defeat him, the day is saved HOORAY, happy ending. But, that was no where near the case. There was no true villain in this movie and the ending was far from happy, but there was an antagonist but I couldn't really look at him as a TRUE villain. Hey ! and If you don't take my word for it take it from the man himself.
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT ! ...In my eyes, there wasn't really an superheroes in the movie. They were more like a group of folks who just lost the way of their cape and cowl, in my opinion It was a lot to bring to a “ Superhero movie “ since I can only remember one heroic scene. But, for all it’s worth I liked it a lot, Its dark and gritty nature had me up and about a few times. But, I did not appreciate seeing Mr.Manhattans manly parts flaunting about every other scene, it was bad enough he wore a nothing but a thong half the movie. But, they did make that up with the lovely Silk Spectre played by Carla Gugino. Who in fact also added some tension to this film, since she acted mostly as a sexual figure in the film. Don’t get me wrong she did great ! but sometimes things just got a little too sexy when it came to her.Anyone who watched the movie will understand exactly what I mean. But, it was the first and last time anything like that’s been done. I would say Kick-Ass is somewhere close, but it’s no where as remotely close to Watchmen. There was a few issues where stuff had gotten confusing, or missing details I didn't notice in the movie until watching the third time . There's also those scenes, that you see that makes you automatically go “ What… Just.. Happened.. “
Merp ? Why do I love this movie again ? Well despite it’s many flaws. I was just happy to see how well Zack Snyder did with it, cause trust me it could have been way worse. But, Zack was given a task and he experimented and it still ended up pretty entertaining. For that he has my support, besides the Action and the Plot was pretty fun and cool to look at. Mr. Manhattan looked amazing, The fighting was pretty cool with a lot of blood and bones popping out certain parts and such. It was just really cool to watch. My favorite characters in the movie was Rorschach played by Jackie Earle Haley and the Comedian played by Jeffery Dean Morgan, they were phenomenal and super interesting to watch.
One of the main reasons this movie carried so much hate was because it didn't exactly go off the comic, which I'm completely OK with, what kind of place would Hollywood be if they thrown there originality to the side to copy exactly whats in the book.
