2015 marks the 30th anniversary of seminal sci-fi comedy Back to the Future and what better way to celebrate it than with a feature length documentary starring all of the principle players? Well, I guess the release of hoverboards would be good a way to celebrate too, but we're still waiting on that one.
A Kickstarter funded documentary, titled Back in Time, recently debuted its first trailer teasing lengthy interviews with Christopher Lloyd, Robert Zemeckis, Michael J. Fox, Lea Thompson, Bob Gale, and Alan Silvestri. Check it out below:
BACK IN TIME offers an unprecedented look into the overwhelming cultural significance of the Back to the Future trilogy. The film crew trekked across more than a dozen states and through two continents capturing footage for the feature. They conducted more than 50 interviews with cast, crew, and some of the trilogy’s biggest fans. The film features cast members including Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Tompson; production members like Robert Zemeckis, Bob Gale, and Alan Silvestri; as well as fans like Dan Harmon, Stephen Clark, Adam F. Goldberg, and Joe Walser.
The project was originally Kickstarted back in mid-2013, however it seems to have grown in scale far beyond the original expectations of the creators. With this in mind, they're now back on Kickstarter to generate an additional $50,000 to cover further filming and technical elements, as well distributing the documentary to film festivals and independent cinemas.
However, even if this target is not met, the documentary will still see the light of day. It is due to premiere on October 21, 2015 in Hollywood as part of the We're Going Back 30th anniversary fan festival. I'm sure fans of Back to the Future will recognize the significance of the date chosen.
