Tyler Hoechlin Is No Longer a Series Regular on Teen Wolf!

Tyler Hoechlin will no longer be a series regular when Teen Wolf returns for Season 5!

Hoechlin has played Derek Hale from the very first episode and for all 4 seasons of the MTV show, which also lost another original star, Crystal Reed, at the end of Season 3.

Creator, Jeff Davis, talks about Hoechlin's decision to leave the show so he could pursue other things:

“A couple months ago, Tyler Hoechlin came to me to discuss his experience shooting an indie baseball movie, and about how exciting and scary it was for him. I asked if he was ready to move on from ‘Teen Wolf.’ He said he felt like he was at a point in his career where he wanted to try new things, things that scare him, but wasn’t quite ready to let go of the family he created on ‘Teen Wolf.’ So I talked to the network about it, and creatively we decided that it was a good time to refocus Season 5 on the teens of ‘Teen Wolf.’”

The indie baseball movie mentioned is called Undrafted and stars Hoechlin alongside Joseph Mazzello (Jurassic Park and The Pacific), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Aaron Tveit (Graceland) and Philip Winchester (Strike Back).

But the Season 3 finale was not the last we saw of Derek Hale, who in the finale, after a near death experience, evolved into a full wolf.

"Only a few weeks ago, Tyler came by the stages to discuss possible storylines for Derek. While Tyler may no longer be a series regular, don’t count Derek Hale out just yet. It’s never easy to lose a series regular on the show, but it always comes from a place of respecting an artist — because all artists need to try new things. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing the new characters that Tyler Hoechlin creates, and can’t wait to have him back on our set as well.”

Aside from the upcoming Undrafted, Tyler has also starred in Road to Perdition, beside Tom Hanks, Hall Pass and 7th Heaven.

I personally look forward to seeing Hoechlin outside of Teen Wolf, his character has slowly been getting less and less story and screen time.

Maybe a superhero role?

Although, I stopped watching the show at the end of Season 3, Hoechlin and costar Dylan O'Brien were always the characters that kept me interested in the show.
