When we heard Zack Snyder would be helming the remake of George Romero's iconic Dawn of the Dead, I think it's fair to say a lot of traditional zombie fans weren't best pleased.

Why bother trying to remake a masterpiece?

Well, turns out we were wrong, Snyder delivered something kinetic, frenetic and different enough from the original to warrant its own revered reputation. Let's take a look at the cast 11 years on. Yeah, that's right, Dawn of the Dead came out in 2004 - it only seems like yesterday...

Sarah Polley - Ana

Fun Fact: Sarah Polley had largely appeared in independent films before landing the role of Ana in Dawn of the Dead. She was apparently surprised at how physical the role would be, and later claimed she's never ran so much in her life.

What Has She Been In Since?: Don't Come Knocking (2005), Beowulf & Grendel (2005), Splice (2009), Trigger (2010)

Ving Rhames - Kenneth

Fun Fact: In the scene where Ana stitches up Kenneth's wounds, a real nurse was used. However, she misunderstood the director's directions to go deeper and accidentally stitched the prothesis into Rhames arm. He didn't say anything until after the scene, with Snyder thinking the blood was merely "a really good effect."

What Has He Been In Since?: Mission: Impossible III (Luther Stickell), I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007), Surrogates (2009), Piranha 3D (2010), Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011), Monday Mornings (2013)

Jake Weber - Michael

Fun Fact: Nathan Fillion also auditioned for the role of Michael.

What Has He Been in Since?: Medium (2005-2011), House M.D. (2012), Redemption Trail (2013), Hell on Wheels (2014)

Ty Burrell - Steve

Fun Fact: Although now best known as playing the hapless Phil Dunphy in Modern Family, Ty Burrell has appeared in a surprising amount of blockbuster action movies, including Dawn of the Dead, Black Hawk Down and The Incredible Hulk.

What Has He Been In Since?: National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007), The Incredible Hulk (2008), The Super Hero Squad Show (2010-2011), Muppets Most Wanted (2014), Modern Family (2009-2015)

Michael Kelly - CJ

Fun Fact: In one scene, Michael and CJ cooperate to burn zombies with the aid of a fuel bump and CJ's lighter. This is a direct reference to a similar scene in Romero's Night of the Living Dead.

What Else Has He Been In Since?: Kojak (2005), The Sopranos (2006-2007), Generation Kill (2008), Law Abiding Citizen (2009), Chronicle (2012), Man of Steel (2013), House of Cards (2013-2015)

Mekhi Phifer - Andre

Fun Fact: The scene in which Andre's zombified baby is born was originally to feature the baby killing the mother, however this was deemed too gruesome.

What Else Can I See Him In?: Curb Your Enthusiasm (2005), ER (2002-2008), Torchwood (2011), Divergent (2014), Insurgent (2015)
