UK boy band One Direction's big Singapore concert created a buzz in Singapore and set a new record for the total number of Tweets related to a Singapore-based event on Twitter.SINGAPORE: Popular UK boy band One Direction’s Singapore concert at the National Stadium on Wednesday (Mar 11) has set a new record for the total number of Tweets related to a Singapore-based event, said Twitter on Thursday (Mar 12).

The concert, which drew more than 30,000 fans, also drew more than 100,000 Tweets from Singaporeans and fans in the region, while the hashtag (On the Road Again – Singapore) topped the trending charts on Twitter.One Direction’s Singapore concert caused a buzz in Singapore, with some fans turning up at the Singapore Sports Hub as early as 4am to be among the first to get into the standing area and get a good spot to watch the show, despite instructions from the Singapore Sports Hub that fans should only start queuing up at 11am for safety and security reasons.

Although some fans did not manage to get tickets to the concert, they still made their way to the National Stadium to catch a glimpse of the show from outside the gate.

The affection showered upon the band in Singapore was not lost on One Direction’s Liam Payne who tweeted “Thanks Singapore it was a pleasure” after the show.
