His motto was Noli Timere Messorem - "Don't Fear The Reaper" - and now Discworld author Terry Pratchett has passed away.
Death was a big part of his novels, and he wasn't afraid of Him. Well, he knew it was coming and faced it as he faced anything he wasn't particularly keen on: with heart, intelligence, and a good serving of old-fashioned British grumpiness.
To say I love Terry Pratchett's books is something of an understatement. Like George R. R. Martin or Kurt Vonnegut, Pratchett took the oft-looked-down-upon art of genre fiction and made it into something personal and powerful, a witticism-studded canopy of fantastic imaginings.
As Moviepilot is predominantly about movies, when considering an appropriate Pratchett quote to leave with you, I thought first about his novel Moving Pictures. Like so many of his works, it's funny, bristling with humor and cleverness, and at times, incredibly beautiful and profound, so this is where the above quote is from. RIP to a man who knew life intimately.
