When DC and Warner Bros announced their projected line up of movies, they also made it pretty clear that these movies would be synching up with their recently launched New 52 line of comic books.
The New Justice League
With the Justice League also being part of that relaunch, chances are good that the first villain the team banded together to fight in this New 52 era is a good candidate to appear in the Justice League movie. So should we go ahead and start dream casting our Darkseid?
The Darkseid Rises
And who better than Darkseid to take on the Justice League? I can't think of a better foe for the combined strength of the Superman, Aquaman, Cyborg, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Batman. I mean the guy can control planets - Batman is going to need all the help he can get!
Of Gods and Wonder Woman
Darkseid is one of the New Gods in the DC universe. The New Gods aren't too dissimilar from the Inhumans of the Marvel universe - creatures from other planets that have ties to humans that go back quite a ways. In fact, the Wonder Woman movie and it's potential relationship to the Greek Gods might be a way for Darkseid to get a pre-Justice League introduction.
Darkseid's primary power is his Omega Beams that he can launch from his body and pretty much instantly destroy anything that isn't a Superman. He can teleport and move and control things with his mind. He's pretty much an invincible immortal so this will definitely be new ground for Batman.
Doomsday for Batman?
It'll be interesting to see how exactly Batman is going to fit in on screen alongside all these super-powered folks. It's one thing to see a Justice League cartoon or read an issue of the comic book - but as Batman vs Superman is preparing to unleash Doomsday upon Metropolis and Gotham we'll get our first look at how Ben Affleck's Batman can go toe to toe with the universe's strongest super heroes and super villains.
Batman is going to have to come up with some really impressive gadgets if he's going to go up against Darkseid and Doomsday and have any sort of life expectancy for Justice League Part 2. Maybe he'll act as the team's guy who works the computers at the HQ. Or maybe he will die in Justice League and Warner Bros will have another red hot Batman reboot on their hands for 2020.
But that won't happen will it? No, since DC is looking to create a cinematic universe, one of the things you have to do is keep your hand away from the reboot button. While Warner Bros could certainly recast the role, we'll definitely be seeing a Batman who is in his 40s for a while to come.
Let's hope Superman doesn't destroy that Batsuit Bruce Wayne made for for his fight against him - that thing will definitely come in handy against Darkseid. What do you think? Are there other DC villains you'd rather see the members of the Justice League go up against?
