Most movie goers this season have groaned at the constant retelling of stories they "already know and love." I must admit that I, too, am one of those firm believers in telling it once and moving on, yet this movie has once more shown me that Disney is not just a rehashing of the classic tale.
Director Kenneth Branagh (Thor, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), has created something not only appealing to the audience, but also to the picky cinematographer in me. His use of camera angles and lighting set not only the mood, but also that this story is more than the fairytale you know and love.
Giving the Prince a name rather than just Charming was also a nice addition, as well as giving us more back story of the Prince than just the royal ball. I enjoyed the banter between the Prince and Ella and found myself not only laughing, but emotionally moved by both Lily and Richard's performances.
All in all, a good light-hearted film that reminds us a Dream is a wish your heart makes.
