I've been asked about my hate-on for Man of Steel.
That's a lie. This the Interweb.

I've read declarative statements that I have no appreciation of movies and don't understand Mr. Snyder's vision.
Also the authenticity of my parents marriage in relation to my conception and birth, my level of intelligence, whether I have a soul, and just shut up you stupid Marvel fanboy.

If I had to pick a segment that truly bothered me. It would be the origin.
An hour to tell us about who Superman is and how he came to be.
An. Hour.
An hour to tell us something we'd seen a hundred times in comics, cartoons, and previous movies.
And I still don't understand why it's there.

My favorite version of Superman's origin is and has been for several years is the opening of Grant Morrison's and Frank Quitely's All-Star Superman.
It's totally dependent on the fans knowing what fans are expected to know summed up in two word explanations:
Doomed planet.
Desperate scientists.
Last hope.
Kindly couple.
