Comedy legend Eddie Murphy will reportedly star in the upcoming biopic of stand-up comedian Richard Pryor.
He is said to be playing the late comedian's father, former boxer LeRoy "Buck Carter" Pryor.
Murphy has long cited Pryor as one of the biggest influences on his career (he impersonated the veteran comedian in his early years), and eventually went on to star alongside him in 1989's Harlem Nights.
The biopic will be directed by Lee Daniels, who is best known for The Butler, Precious, and the TV show Empire. Posting to Instagram, Daniels uploaded a picture of him and Murphy with the caption,
"Strap in and brace yourself. They done let me and him out of our cages! #idonteventhinkimreadyforthisone! #excited #proud #OMG."
According to ET Online, Murphy will star as Pryor's father - former boxer LeRoy "Buck Carter" Pryor - alongside Mike Epps as Pryor himself. The rest of the cast includes Kate Hudson as Pryor's wife, Jennifer Pryor, and Oprah Winfrey as his grandmother, Marie Carter.
The as-yet-untitled biopic has yet to be given a release date.
