The new trailer for Season 2 of [Penny Dreadful](series:817319) has been released and it gives an intriguing look at what is in store for Vanessa and the gang!
Unlike the trailer released in January, which showed the whole gang up to their old tricks, this one is a simpler message to devoted fans.
It begins, naturally, with the devil.
Before we see anything else, the devil card is turned over and a sense of foreboding is created. Vanessa Ives is then shown to be the holder of the cards, and seems unperturbed by this harrowing omen.
She continues, unshaken by the first reveal, only to find herself turning over another such card.
The show creators obviously want to warn us about something!
But, even this second, devilish premonition doesn't ruffle Vanessa's feathers. As usual, she is unflappable in the face of the darkness all around her. Despite knowing full well the power of satan to take away family and friends, she glows like an angel, not revealing any hint of fear.
She is fully committed to turning over the third and final card and completing the divination process, despite probably having a hunch, as we do, that it might not be a goodie.
And yes, you guessed it, she hits the jackpot! Three in a row - what are the chances?!
We may expect our fearless heroine to shirk in the face of this ominous premonition. But no, not even this devilish trifecta will throw her off the trail.
In fact, she appears quite excited by the prospect of having the creature rear its ugly head.....
But, that third card does not spell the end of this game.
As the camera pans out we discover that Vanessa has been quite busy. As far as I can tell (correct me if I am wrong, but it does seem like the most likely scenario) every card in the room is devil-side up!
For a short while, she continues on. The music plays on, hypnotizing the viewer like a lullaby, until suddenly, Vanessa looks up. She stares into the camera with a defiant grin and boom! The candles that had been flickering so gently and significantly increasing the eeriness of this scene, extinguish all at once.
The smoke from these possessed candles floats up and the season 2 info appears on the screen.
Is this trailer a bit overdone? Did we need to have the devil's coming so clearly outlined in this trailer?
I wanted to see more of what Evan is up to, what the latest is with Brona and how Malcolm is coping with his loss.
What do you think? Does this trailer increase your excitement about the upcoming Season 2? Or does it seem a little heavy handed?
