New Cast. New Characters. New Movie.
Better in every way.
In the first three movies, it was cool getting to know all the Autobots like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, Ironhide, Ratchet and all the others, but for half of the movie all you saw and heard was Shia LeBarf screaming like a little girl. It ruined the movies for me. He was so terrified that instead of yelling in fear he just let out a high pitch screech of sorts.
Although I did really enjoy the third instalment of the Transformers movies, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. I liked how the Decepticons were invading Earth and trying to bring Cybertron here to be rebuilt by all six billion human slaves (although I wouldn't really wanna be a slave). I thought that made for a really interesting storyline. I enjoyed the plot of the moon landing secrets, because speculation about that has been happening for a while, and is nothing new, but to add in a new concept like that was really interesting.
So when I saw Transformers 4, I was glad to see Marky Mark as the new lead character instead Shia. It was nice to see a new cast and a more family oriented dynamic to the storyline. A father who is not super close to his daughter risks life and limb to save her after Lockdown takes her when he captures Optimus Prime. But even after she is saved by her father and boyfriend, she still runs to her boyfriend and thanks him for saving her, which kinda upset me a little, if we're being honest.
Secondly, the character of Lockdown is just plain badass. He doesn't care about the feud between Autobot or Decepticon, he just wants Optimus Prime, and doesn't care how he gets it or who he hurts in the process, and plus when his head turns into a cannon, thats pretty awesome too. He has so many unique things, like a spaceship thats also a prison, with booby traps and menacing robot guard dogs. He's probably one of the most badass characters through out all four movies.
Thirdly, is the four Dino Bots, Strafe, Slug, Grimlock, and Scorn. Strafe is a two headed pterodactyl with two spiked tails, that flies and wreaks havoc on the Decepticon prototypes, Slug is a giant metal triceratops with two horns on its lower jaw, that is basically a tank on four legs with a tail, Scorn is a Spinosaurus that's bigger than all of the other Dino Bots, that has three rows of giant metal spikes coming out of his back, and last but not least my personal favourite, Grimlock, the huge, metal, ready to battle, Tyrannosaurus Rex, who lets Optimus ride him into battle, which lets face it, is pretty awesome to watch on the big screen.
Lastly, the idea of Transformium and it being a programable piece of matter is an amazing concept and idea. "Transformium" is what all transformers are made up of and was found in the Arctic while and was being mined there as well. Lockdown has "seeds" which when detonated will turn anything in the blast radius into Transformium. This is one of the most mind-blowing ideas of Transformers 4. How one ball of it could become a pistol, a pink pony, or an assault rifle is just incredible. If it was put to use in the real world the use for it would be endless. We wouldn't have to use raw materials very much at all, which would conserve costs, and we could use the Transformium to help with World hunger and poverty. It could solve so many of our problems that it's a shame that it doesn't actually exist.
