Another season of Dancing with the Stars begins!
I'm a little late to this party. 20 seasons in, and I only started watching last year due to some of the celebs participating. Needless to say due to my return, I got hooked (thanks, mom), and we have quite a few good dancers this year! Looks like the scoring might get dangerously close later on. Without further ado, here's my favorites from last night's premiere.
Star: Willow Shields - Partner: Mark Ballas
Willow's most notable work has been playing as Primrose Everdeen in The Hunger Games series. At only 14 years old, she is DWTS' youngest contestant, but she's not letting that stop her! In the opening kit, they mentioned that she has not danced with a boy before DWTS, but they still did awesome. Mark has got to the finals every year he's been with a younger contestant, so here's hoping our Primrose can at least make it to the finals, or even better, win! Star: Riker Lynch - Partner: Allison Holker
I'm not hip enough with these new bands to know who Riker was prior to last night. He's made appearances in Glee, and perhaps more notably, is a singer and bassist in R5, which include three of his siblings, and their best friend. I was however a little familiar with Allison, who was new to the show last season. Unfortunately, she and her partner from last season were sent home pretty early. But it looks like Riker and Allison are the perfect duo, and I really hope that they go far and that we get to see more of Allison's talents this season. To view their performance, click here.
Star: Patti LaBelle - Partner: Artem Chigvintsev
Patti is responsible for songs like Lady Marmalade, which is also the song that this duo danced to last night. This wonderful woman is 70 years old, and you can tell just by watching her that her heart is in this. She might not be able to move as quickly as others, but she's still such a joy to watch. I'll be enjoying every moment she's on the screen. To view their performance, click here.
Star: Noah Galloway - Partner: Sharna Burgess
Good question! Noah lost his left arm (above the elbow) and left leg (above the knee) in an IED attack in Iraq. After some bumps in the road, he decided he wanted to be healthier and inspire others. He's now a personal trainer, motivational speaker, father of three kids, participates in Spartan events and 5k/10k races. Being a double amputee makes things interesting for both the star and the partner, no doubt. Noah stated in the opening kit that unlike last year's double amputee (Amy Purdy), his leg injury happened above the knee, meaning he can't lean into it, or else he'll collapse. When this happened, he got right back up, and continued. He might be one of the most determined people I've ever seen. He stated that he "didn't want to just do well as a guy missing an arm and a leg. I expect more, and that's where I'm struggling with it." I can say with certainty that he is indeed an inspiration to many. To view their performance, click here.
Star: Chris Soules - Partner: Witney Carson
You might know Chris as last year's Bachelor. Or like me, you might have needed your mother to inform you on this. As for Witney, she was last season's winner with Alfonso Ribeiro. Sure, Witney may have had the upper hand last season due to being paired with a professional dancer, but I still love her either way. Do you think she could win twice in a row? Star: Nastia Liukin - Partner: Derek Hough
Nastia participates in gymnastics and has received the incredible achievement as Olympic All-Around Gold Medalist at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. She is being paired with Derek, who has a pretty good track record of stunning performances. Last night was no different, and I expect they'll make it pretty far. Star: Rumer Willis - Partner: Val Chmerkovskiy
Get it? Because it's Bruce Willis (and Demi Moore's) daughter? Okay, I'm done with the bad puns and plays on words. It should be no surprise that any duo involving Val makes it on a list like this. Anything with Val in it is usually pretty high on my favorite performances, and this was no exception. I clearly wasn't the only one who thought so, as they scored perfect 8's across the board, resulting in the highest score last night. Val still hasn't won yet, but this could be his year!
