As much as we all hate to think of it, Marvel is going to have to recast the Avengers. Sooner or later, Robert Downey Jr. will retire, Chris Evans will move on, and Mark Ruffalo just won't be able to Hulk out. So what does Marvel do then? They reboot the movies.
Whether we get the same heroes or different ones, the primary Avengers characters will stay the same. Given this is my first time to fan-cast anything, it's already proved a struggle; however, here is my best shot at what our next Avengers could look like.
Steve Rodgers/Captain America - Sam Worthington
Although it's hard to see anyone but Chris Evans as Captain America, Sam Worthington could be a pretty amazing Captain America. His look would be slightly different, of course, but he is no stranger to the action movie - having appeared in Terminator Salvation, Clash of the Titans, and Avatar. Plus, Marvel even considered Sam to play Captain America early on in the casting for Captain America: The First Avenger.
Tony Stark/Iron Man - Leonardo DiCaprio
Given it'd be hard to recast Iron Man no matter who the actor is, I think Leonardo DiCaprio could be the man for the job. Not only could he look like Tony Stark with a little shaving and some hair dye, he'd also be a perfect blend of cocky and yet still very likable. He's got the experience and flame. Plus, he's never acted as a superhero, and I bet this would be one of Disney's top picks for the next Iron Man.
Thor - Channing Tatum
Given that Chris Hemsworth has set the bar for how Thor should be played, Channing Tatum would have a lot of Australian thunder to live up to. Besides that, he's no stranger to the action movie and yet could play the lovable, goof that Thor is when it comes to getting Asgardian and Human customs mixed. On the plus side too, he's got the body to look convincingly dangerous. Stick a hammer in Channing's hand, and you've got one a nearly perfect Thor.
Bruce Banner/Hulk - Russell Crowe
While Hulk has been portrayed by lots of different actors, I think Russell Crowe could be an excellent Hulk. Why? He has more than enough experience and talent to play a trouble, emotional Bruce Banner who can also portray a doctor of incredible smarts. His voice is distinctive and memorable. And when it comes down to actually hulking out, Russell is no stranger to smashing, crushing, and pummeling.
Clint Barton/Hawkeye - Chris Pine
Chris Pine has the wits, humor, and gritty seriousness that Jeremy Renner gives Hawkeye in The Avengers and in his brief cameo in Thor. I definitely could see him suiting up and launching arrows along side Captain America and Thor. He could also bring a younger Hawkeye into the movies, which would add some age diversity into the mix of heroes.
Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow - Emily Blunt
For me, this is a no-brainer. Emily Blunt has to play Black Widow in the next Avengers reboot. She looks deceptively beautiful and can land a nice punch, kick, and takeout on most guys...and aliens for that matter. She's the perfect blend of beauty and power, and would be a perfect Russian spy like Natasha. Give her some red hair, a black suit, and a metal crowbar and you've got a near perfect Black Widow.
Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch - Rachel McAdams
Yeah she's pretty darn beautiful which is why she'd be so dangerous. I think Rachel McAdams would be a spot-on casting choice for Scarlet Witch. Given we have no idea how Elizabeth Olsen will hold up (I assume pretty well), Rachel McAdams could play a devil of a Scarlet Witch even if Elizabeth Olsen performs excellently. Just imagine her taunting Captain America or luring Thor into some freaky dreamland.
Nick Fury - Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt may not have been the very first person to enter your mind when it comes to recasting Nick Fury. However, if you really think about it, then he becomes a clear choice. His more-than-amazing jobs in Fury and World War Z more than qualifies him for the foul-mouthed, barking leader that Nick Fury is. He is a clear choice when it comes to leading the Avengers into battle.
Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver - Robert Pattinson
This guy probably wasn't even on your list for Quicksilver. He's a vampire from a stupid Twilight disease that infected every single girl's mind and ruined America. Okay...so maybe I'm exaggerating. Anyhow, he has the chops and looks to be a superhero. He knows how to play complex characters like he did in Water for Elephants and Cosmopolis. Plus, he'd be great alongside a crew like the people above.
Ta-da! I made it! You know, though it was exhausting, it was kind of fun to fan-cast the Avengers reboot. How did I do? Do you guys agree with some of the choices, disagree with them, or all together just want to burn my house down and throw me over the side of a cliff?
