Sean Cunningham (creator of the original Friday The 13th film) has announced that a [Friday the 13th](movie:996554) video game would come around October of this year for multiple platforms. Here's what he had to say about the announcement.
“With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form, we have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.”
And to add on to that, Jason is going to make an appearance in the brand new [Mortal Kombat](movie:38705) game that's due out in April.
But back to the game, I want to go over five things I think we would all want from the new Friday The 13th video game, starting with..
5. Film References
The Friday The 13th franchise has been around for 30+ years, so a few film references would be inevitable. I'm thinking maybe a crippled counselor will get a machete to the face.. yeah something nostalgic like that.
4. Camp Crystal Lake
Jason and the franchise have ventured from Crystal Lake on numerous occasions, but this being the first (actually second) Friday The 13th game, I think we can all agree it should take place at Camp Crystal Lake. It would definitely make a scarier game setting with all of the woods and dark cabins around.
3. Online Mode
Now imagine how awesome it would be to play as Jason and slaughter players from all around the world? Or perhaps you'd want to be scared as the victim by narrowly escaping from Jason with other players? Either way it would make for a pretty scary time..online.
2. Scary Jason
Jason isn't known for being as scary as some other horror icons like Michael Myers. But in the earlier movies he was a pretty creepy hockey masked introvert living in the woods. Long before he became a zombie, which of course is a lot less scary in my opinion.
1. Free Roam
Ultimately, you know all you really want to do is play as Jason as you run around slaying people in whatever ways you want to. Crystal Lake could be a pretty big map itself, but maybe after we beat the game we could unlock the other famous Friday The 13th settings like a full scaled spaceship, cruise-ship, or maybe even Times Square? All of that would mean unimaginable amounts of fun.
And those are my five things I think we all want from the new Friday The 13th video game.
