“One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty. After making Drive and falling madly in love with the electricity of Los Angeles, I knew I had to return to tell the story of The Neon Demon. This movie is a manifestation of the strong ties between us and will lead to many more adventures.”
Thats all we know so far straight from the mouth of visionary extraordinaire Nicolas Winding Refn himself.
Casting has been ongoing over the last few weeks with new additions being added. Mostly of a female driven cast that is sounding very promising. Heres the cast breakdown as of today:
and now adding Karl Glusman
The talented and returning composer Cliff Martinez (Drive, Only God Forgives) will return to bring his elemental-electro-pop signature back to streets here in LA thankfully to set the mood accordingly. The screenplay is written by Refn himself and ‘first-time’ screenwriter Mary Laws, a recent graduate of Yale’s MFA playwrighting program.
Refn has said that directing a horror film would be his passion project and has mentioned Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of his favorite horror movies. When i was able to talk to him personally last month on how he was feeling towards it so far, he said it was his 'masterpiece' and gave me a very large smile making me confident as always in his work. Production starts March 30th and i for one cant wait!
