We are all aware that The Avengers (2012) was a massive hit at the box office and moreover, it was extremely well received by critics (something that not many films based on comic books can boast about). In order to become the third-highest-grossing film of all time, this superhero flick had to have a solid cast and boy, did The Avengers have it! Every cast member got into his character seamlessly and the chemistry between the thespians was almost flawless at times.
However, despite all of the success of The Avengers everyone still has their view on actors that are worthy to make the superhero team and are as worthy as the current team. Here is my take on what would be the perfect re-casting of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Iron Man - Jensen Ackles
It is obvious that Robert Downey Jr did an unbelievable job as Tony Stark and he is easily the main reason for Marvel's Cinematic Universe immense success.
However, if the role was going to be recast I believe that Supernatural star Jensen Ackles is the best fit. He is known for his cool demeanor (and quirkiness at times) and it certainly will not be a problem for him to pull off the look of a “genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist”, especially judging by his height, frame and level of fitness.
In addition, by playing Dean Winchester, he has proven that he can be heroic, badass, funny and extremely determined to help the world fight evil forces. All things considered, because of his versatility and attitude I believe that Ackles will be an amazing fit for the role of Iron Man.
Captain America - Matthew McConaughey
When looking at this concept for the first time, it might seem that McConaughey is anything, but suitable for the role of The First Avenger. However, I believe that due to the fact that he is an exceptional actor, it will not be a problem for him to cope with the demands of the role of Steve Rodgers.
Besides, until his role in The Lincoln Lawyer in 2011 he was mainly known for starring in forgettable romantic comedies, but since then he has reinvented himself and it is hardly a surprise that he has an Academy Award for Best Actor to show for it.
In conclusion, I do not see a reason why such an adaptable actor as McConaughey will not embrace the role of Captain America and with his impressive physique and acting skills he will be a great fit.
Thor - Alexander Skarsgård
Choosing Skarsgård to play Thor should be automatic. As Marvel's character is based on the Norse mythological deity of the same name, Skarsgård's Swedish heritage and his natural Scandinavian are ideal for the role.
Furthermore, he will not have a problem with meeting the physical requirements for the role and he definitely has some acting skills. If you do not trust me, watch him as Eric Northman in True Blood, this role really shows his acting prowess and I do believe that by playing Thor he will not disappoint.
The Hulk - Michael C. Hall
The character of Dexter Morgan, proved that Michael C.Hall has no problem in playing characters that are different in a way from the rest of humanity. Also, he is certainly someone who is good at portraying characters who are in a constant conflict with themselves and what better opportunity is there for him to display his skills than playing the Hulk?
And of course the fact that he is one of the sexiest and fittest men alive helps his argument as well.
Black Widow - Olga Kurylenko
Similar to the case of Thor and Alexander Skarsgård, the role of Black Widow seems like it was designed specially for Olga Kurylenko. Everything, from her Ukrainian origin, to her appearances in action films such as Hitman (2007), Quantum of Solace (2008) and Oblivion (2013) screams that she would be suitable for the role of Natalia "Natasha" Romanoff.
Hawkeye - Luke Evans
Despite his limited screen time Jeremy Renner was terrific as Hawkeye in The Avengers. Despite this fact, I am of the firm believe that if they had cast Luke Evans in the role of Clint Barton, the result would have been equally effective.
There is something about Evans' demeanor that makes him particularly suitable to any action role, as shown in his portrayals of Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit film series, Owen Shaw in Fast 6, Apollo and Zeus in Clash of the Titans and Immortals, respectively and many others. Judging by all of his credentials I really do not see why he will not make a wonderful Hawkeye.
Nick Fury - Kurt Russell
Is there an actor in the history of cinema who rocked the eye patch better than Kurt Russell? Plus, his tough attitude and the fact that he has a lot of experience playing iconic action roles, makes him a standout candidate for playing the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
On the other hand, if we are talking about casting the Ultimate Nick Fury, I believe that, without a doubt, Denzel Washington is the most suitable actor to play him. Having two Academy Awards and dozens of memorable performances does not hurt his case, either.
