The much anticipated Avengers movie of 2012 was rated the 3rd highest grossing film of all time, just under James Cameron's Avatar (2009) and Titanic (1997). Although the current cast members are absolutely amazing at bringing the team to life, I thought that if another group were to have been cast, that I'd have the perfect candidates.
Tony Stark/Iron Man
To many, Ian Somerhalder is known as Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries and from his role in the TV series I truly believe he is our best candidate for Tony Stark. How So?
Well to answer that, we would need to look at how Tony Stark is being portrayed at the moment.
In The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder is able to put across so many of Stark's characteristics, and would truly leave his mark just as much as Robert Downey Jr. was able to. If he were given the role, as well as the current writers for the character, he would not only bring to life Tony Stark in the coolest way possible, if Somerhalder was cast as Tony Stark, he'd Chuck Norris roundhouse kick the role out of the dojo. He would also not be troubled by the onset of age anytime soon, which will become a problem with Robert Downey Jr in the next few years. This means a longer career for Ian Somerhalder and less of a need for another person to have to take up the mantle. Now with this out in the open, all we would need is the Iron Man suit and we're ready to party.
Bruce Banner/The Hulk
My reason for this decision is quite an obvious one. Adrien Brody is just an all round brilliant actor who could pull off the role of Bruce Banner to the tee. When you think about Bruce Banner and the Hulk in the comics they are usually pictured like this.
Banner, as seen here, has a slim build and is often associated with someone who is scrawny. Whilst I am not calling Adrien Brody scrawny, I do believe that his build alone makes him a competitor. Then aside from this we think of the relationship Banner has with the Hulk. They fight over who controls the body most of the time. Doesn't that remind you of how Brody and King Kong were throughout the movie King Kong (2005). I joke of course, but I do believe that were he to have been cast as Bruce Banner, that he would've become an iconic character for the MCU for years to come.
Ironically, Adrien Brody starred alongside the current Bruce Banner, Mark Ruffalo, in the movie Brothers Bloom (2008). His role in this movie was one of my reasons for choosing him in the first place.
By far the coolest male character in the HBO series, Game of Thrones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau would have made an amazing God of Thunder were he given the chance. In the series he is known as Jaime Lannister, a highly skilled warrior of the Kings Guard, and he often demonstrates his ability to handle himself in combat. One of the Thunder Gods favorite past-times. Why would I choose Him to be Thor? The simple truth is that his ability to deliver incredible work can be seen in all the Game of Thrones seasons to date. His rendition of Thor could make for a darker tale that would really benefit the MCU for Thor: Ragnorak, set for release on 28 July 2017.
Though they may need to re-write the story of Jane Foster so that she is really Thor's sister.
Steve Rogers/Captain America
I think Ryan Gosling would be ideal for the role of the red, white and blue Avenger. His movie career has been filled with a number of role's truly showcasing his diversity as an all round actor. Gosling makes this re-casting list for his role in the movies Believer (2001), Drive (2011), and Gangster Squad (2013). These movies show just how Ryan Gosling would be able to step into the role of Captain America. He is an actor with a lot of depth, who can thus show the real tragedy that is Captain America. As 'Gangster Squad' revealed, he is also more than capable of stepping into the role of leadership. From these movies we can get a feeling for how he would have performed in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Aside from Ryan Gosling being a masterful actor, were he to have been cast as the Cap. it could have saved me a lot of time having to spend reconditioning my mind into thinking that Chris Evans is not the Human Torch.
The rest of the team
Need I say anymore!!
What she can bring to the deadly assassin would be truly awe inspiring, to the degree that her Black Widow rendition would eventually get a Box Office movie. Though this would only be when Phase 3 concludes. With her roles in the TV series Penny Dreadful, and Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For and 300: Rise of an Empire we can see how this actress would definitely deliver a one, two punch that not even the amazing Scarlett Johansson could match.
After watching Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013) I firmly believe Chris Pine is the best candidate for the role of Hawkeye in my Avengers team. He has the wit needed to make him more of a likable character in the MCU. Yes the serious Hawkeye from Jeremy Renner is alright, but not quite what I was hoping for.
With Chris Pine as Hawkeye, we would be able to enjoy a blend of seriousness and humor that all add to the awesomeness that is Hawkeye.
On a side note..
I agree that this might not be the perfect team, but were these stars to have been cast in the franchise, with the exception of Samuel L. Jackson, it would have been a very different MCU. For better or for worse? I guess we will never know.
