The original Star Wars EU has been discarded by Disney and Lucasfilm in favor of a fresh star. To be honest, the EU was never anything more than glorified fan fiction. That's it. There was a lot of good and quite a bit of bad as well. However there were some great stories written that give us insight into many different eras in the Star Wars universe. Many stories come to mind and I'm sure all of you have your personal favorites. So why not take the best of the EU and adapt the stories for the new cannon. Make changes when needed but keep the core of the story the same. I would love to see many of the Star Wars novels, comics, and video games adapted to Film (A Cannon). remember how Disney announced there would be Star Wars films released every year with spin-offs in between? These EU stories could become those Spin-Offs! So let's dive in! This is my list of Star Wars EU stories that I would like to see adapted as official Star Wars feature films.

5. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Trilogy

Director: Baz Luhrman

The obvious first.
The obvious first.

Knights of the Old Republic is on of the greatest Star Wars stories ever told outside of the original trilogy. It's a fantastic game and if you haven't played them you should. Now. But in all seriousness these games are great and would make for great films. I already touched on this game in my previous article so I don't feel like there is much more to say. The game is great, the story is better, and would be an amazing Star War's spin-off. Nuff said.

4. Star Wars: Splinter of the Mind's Eye

Directors: Dave Newell, Mike Stoklasa (Harry Plinkett)

Classic Star Wars.
Classic Star Wars.

Splinter of the Mind Eyes was the first Star War's EU novel. Ever. And it happens to be one of my favorites as well. Sure in retrospect some of the dialogue is a tad corny. But underneath is a great Star Wars story. One that most definitely deserves a film adaptation. Originally, The plot for the novel was intended to be a low budget sequel to the original Star Wars movie if it weren't successful. However as we all know, the movie was a hit and went on to become an iconic piece of pop culture. More than that it was just a fantastic entry in the history of cinema and revolutionized special effects. So instead, The Empire Strikes Back went into development and was released in 1980. And Splinter of the Minds Eye was turned into a novel written by Alan Dean Foster, who also ghost wrote the novel adaptation of the first movie. Splinter of the Minds Eye takes place in between Episode IV and V. Luke And leia crash land on the planet Mimban which happens have fallen under the control of the Empire. We are introduced to new species, a new planet, and Luke is even given a new mentor who is connected to the force to guide him on his mission. There's even a great climactic battle between Luke and Vader! Certain things would have to be changed, and Luke and Leia would of course have to be recast, but in my eyes this is all worth it to see this story on the big screen. And who wouldn't love to see Vader in all his greatness on screen once again voiced by James Earl Jones. Give us the sequel we were originally meant to have Disney. And don't take that as a diss towards Empire, I love that movie. I just have a passion for this novel and would like to see it reach a wider audience. You can pick this one up on the cheap, so do yourself a favor and give it a read. Ha, Rhyming.

3. The Force Unleashed

Director: James Cameron

Damn.
Damn.

Underneath the Michael Bay treatment of the force, This game had a great story. Who wouldn't want to see the formation of the rebellion? and yes I know this story is being rewritten for Star Wars rebels. In the new cannon, StarKiller is no longer the Jedi who starts the rebellion. But maybe there is still a way to fit him. Have his story take place before Rebels. Have him be the precursor to the multiple rebel cells that start showing up before episode IV. Personally I think the 'unleashed' part of this game should be turned down. When you turn the force all the way up like they do in this game, It kills the our imagination a little. When were given everything at once there is no room to come up with our own ideas. Granted it made for a fun game. However when adapted for film, things will need to be changed not only to fit the new cannon, but to keep Star Wars movies as a whole interesting. That's not to say however I don't want to see the scene where StarKiller uses the force to pull down a star destroyer. That would be amazing especially if they did it with miniatures. I just think the story needs some tweaking. And the title should be changed in order to avoid confusion with episode VII. Bottom line, the game is fun and the story is classic Star Wars. Give us a movie Disney.

2. Star Wars Clone Wars (2003-2005)

Director: Mathew Vaughn

Remember this?
Remember this?

The Clone Wars TV series from 2003 was good however since the creation of the new Clone Wars series, it is no long cannon. But that doesn't mean it did not tell interesting stories. It's been a while since I have seen this series, but one episode in particular sticks out for me. Anakin and Obi Wan travel to planet to save a tribal alien race. They are indoctrinated into the tribe and Anakin is sent on a mission to save the tribes men who have been captured and turned into deformed monsters. Anakin even enters a cave and is given visions of the future. I would love to see a one-off adventure involving Anakin and Obi Wan on film that show cases their friendship. Plus the story is fantastic and deserves to be cannon.

1. Thrawn Trilogy

Directors: Gore Verbinski, Darren Aronofsky, Alfonso Cauron

Everyone's favorite.
Everyone's favorite.

I will be honest, I have never read this series. So my ability to discuss this one is limited. However I've heard so many good things about it that i felt I needed to include it on this list. In fact the first book is in my Amazon cart right now. So here's the deal, we all know these books are great weather you have read them or not. Most people regarded them as Episodes VII,VIII, IX, before the sequel trilogy from Disney and Lucasfilm was announced. I am excited to read them and just based on reviews, I would love to see them on the silver screen. Sure, the original cast would have to be recast. However that goes for any EU stories we would like to see that involve the original trilogy's band of heroes while their young. Make the right decision Disney and adapt these books. Expect me to talk about this series further once I have read it.

The best.
The best.

The original EU is expansive and I'm sure your currently screaming at the screen that I missed your favorite. I may very well make a Part II. Let me know which parts of the EU you would like to see adapted or made cannon!
