Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Star, Ruth Negga, Is The Female Lead In Preacher.

Probably best known as Raina in Marvel's [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.](series:722469), Ruth Negga, has been cast in AMC's Preacher.

Negga, who is the first actor to be cast in the project, will play Tulip O'Hare, the female lead. Dominic Cooper is rumoured to be in the running for title role.

Preacher is about Jesse Custer, a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip — Jesse’s former and only true love — and an Irish vampire named Cassidy, the three embark on a journey to literally find God.

The show is based on the comic book series from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon that was published by Vertigo, which is a smaller company from within DC Comics, in 1995–2000 and has a total of 75 issues.

Preacher is being developed by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Sam Catlin, with Goldberg and Rogen directing the pilot, which is written by Catlin.

Aside from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Negga, has also starred in World War Z, Misfits and will be seen next in as Lady Taria in Warcraft.

The pilot of [Preacher](movie:1082910) will start production in the summer of 2015 and, if picked up, will air on AMC in 2016.
