Fox has taken pity on us Sleepyheads who have been anxiously biting our nails, awaiting confirmation on the fate of [Sleepy Hollow](series:839489). The network has given an early renewal to the supernatural series, ordering an 18-episode third season.
According to Deadline, the happy news comes on the heels of hiring a new showrunner. Mark Goffman, who was calling the shots for the first two seasons, stepped down to oversee and develop new content at CBS TV Studios. Clifton Campbell has been tapped as new executive producer and showrunner, and don't be surprised if we see some more changes to Sleepy Hollow's overall feel.
Back in January, Fox TV Group Chairman Dana Walden pointed to the potential shifts we could see:
We want to get back to something that feels a little bit more episodic in nature, it has become overly serialized. We are trying to return the fun to it a little bit.
This was in response to season two's ratings drop and creative backlash, so it seems that the show is well aware that many fans want to return to the course of the phenomenal first season. As great as this last season was, I'm very much looking forward to the "fun" coming our way. Isn't that what got us tuning in to Sleepy Hollow in the first place?
Best of all, Campbell seems not only aware of his new fanbase, he's also totally committed to them. In his first tweet after getting this new position, he calls out Sleepyheads by name.
I'm getting the feeling that the unyielding campaigning, tweeting, tumbling, and more have had a major effect on this decision, and it's great that fans can finally rest easy about the future of their show. Now the major question: will we see Ichabbie become canon in season three
