He's played a multitude of complex villains in the past—from a child predator to Freddy Krueger—and now Jackie Earle Haley may be adding a DC villain to his already stacked resume.

Admittedly, this is a VERY loose rumor, so definitely take it with a Rorschach level of skepticism, but Latino Review is reporting that Haley might be up for the role of the Thinker in Warner Bros. and DC's [Suicide Squad](movie:2283363). The Thinker, otherwise known as Cliff Carmichael in this series, is a "cyberpunk maniac" enlisted by Amanda Waller to aid the Suicide Squad. Being the maniac that he is, he doesn't exactly take kindly to another person's direction.

What do you think?

While this is nothing but a rumor right now, these two share such a striking resemblance that I'd be surprised if this doesn't pan out. Haley has proven his acting chops in multiple projects, but his turn as the anti-hero Rorschach in Watchmen sets him up perfectly for this role. He's able to balance a kind of intellectual superiority while never totally losing his humanity, and that could really come in handy for the Thinker.

This villain derives his telekinetic power from technologically advanced chips in his brain (an updated vestige from an earlier "Thinker") and could provide an interesting counterpoint to an already fascinating squad. So, there's no definite answer yet, but we could be seeing the latest addition to the movie before it's even confirmed.

Would you like to see Jackie Earle Haley play the Thinker in Suicide Squad?
