After all the controversy over Batgirl getting a smile drawn on her face, the press missed the truly big story of the week which will change the comic book landscape. Donatello of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is officially dead. The Ninja Turtles, the four brothers are now three.
It happened in the IDW TMNT issue #44, IDW is the publisher with the rights to the Turtles at the moment. But how it happened could leave clues to what's to come in the Nick Turtles series currently running, as well as the second Bay Turtles.
How the death occurred in the comic was, Donatello was beaten to death by long time foes Bebop and Rocksteady. In the comic the other three turtles were trying to stop Krang from terraforming the planet, leaving Donatello running command from their home base. Shredder (now played by his daughter Karia) had ordered Bebop and Rocksteady to kill Donatello if anything went awry. And something did, and the hero in purple has fallen.
But the pair are due to be introduced into the two other ongoing Turtle stories. Is this the true end of Donatello? Will the introduction of these classic villains from the TMNT archives lead to his downfall on both TV and film? Only time can tell, but for now the Ninja Turtles are broken and only a rebooting of the comic storyline can change it, which will not be happening anytime soon. The Ninja Turtles Comic books will never be the same again.
Rest in Peace Donatello, you taught millions of kids that your brain can be just as much of a weapon as any blade.
In the Batgirl storyline, for those who do not know, she was shot a long time ago by the Joker in the story 'The Killing Joke' and was left to die. Unlike Robin, a.k.a. Jason Todd, who was beaten to an inch of his life with a crowbar and then blown up. People thought it was 'horrible' that she was being terrorized by someone who once tried to kill her. I think the people that complained had never read anything the Joker had ever been in. That's his character.
On the left, Jason is 'killed' by the Joker, on the right Barbara is shot. Then years later tortured by the same villain. But this time it is mentally instead of physically.
