To Celebrate the Release of the Hobbit on DVD here are another Five Armies that could go head to head.
With The Hobbit Battle of the Five Armies coming to DVD on Tuesday, March 24th, I thought it would be fun to celebrate by highlighting five other fictional armies that would make an epic clash if they went head to head with each other. This is purely fun with no real potential for a crossover; still if one were to happen I think it would be pretty sweet.
1. Armies of Daenerys of House Targaryen, Mother of Dragons
While her army of 8000 Unsullied, trained from birth, and mercenary groups such as the 2000 Second Sons are more medieval than some of the other armies on this list, it doesn't make Daenerys' forces any less of a threat. For one thing she also has large numbers of freed slaves from cities she has conquered who follow her providing an a large labor force that can farm food and build shelter and other structures such as siege weapons for her when preparing for a battle.
Also, just because the odds are against her in terms of technology doesn't mean she can't handle herself. She has several experienced advisors at her side and unlike some, she listens to them though she herself is a very capable tactician herself. She has overcome many odds, quickly gaining dragons, a large trained army, and now the city of Meereen, so she would be a strong ally or else a formidable enemy for the others on this list not least of which because of her signature weapon ... Mother F---king DRAGONS!!!
They don't call her the Mother of Dragons for nothing. After dragons were believed to have gone extinct, Daenerys shocked the world of Westeros and Essos by hatching the first dragons in over a century and a half. While once small, they are capable of much damage with Drogon helping Daenerys conquer Astapor while still a young dragon smaller than a horse. Since then they have grown to be powerful beasts that even Daenerys is struggling to control; if they were to end up on the battlefield, they would be a force to be reckoned with giving Smaug the Terrible a run for his money (or perhaps gold).
2. The Na'vi
The next army on our list would certainly give even Daenerys' dragons some trouble. No strangers to fighting in the air, the Na'vi would be a formidable adversary or ally on and above the battlefield, numbering in the thousands of soldiers. They certainly demonstrated serious will and zeal in Avatar in their fight for survival something that would gave them an edge then and would give them an edge now. Also, unlike Daenerys, they are more familiar and have shown themselves able to defeat the technological advantages of some of the others on this list thanks to personal experience with the human settlers coupled with Jake Sully's leadership.
They also have a unique bond with their steeds which is an invaluable skill on the battlefield. Their link with nature is unparalleled by the others on this list and, if they are fighting on their home turf, gives them a serious edge as seen when the rest of Pandora's flora and fauna joined the battle bringing swift victory to the Na'vi. The Na'vi themselves are also experienced and well-trained soldiers showcasing exemplary skills in horseback/banshee-riding, archery, as well as being proficient in hand-to-hand combat due to their large size and skills with knives.
While they may not have the technological know-how some others on this list do, the Na'vi have the fortitude and the experience on the battlefield to bring down any army no matter how many missiles, airships, or guns they have.
3. The Fire Nation
Launching a Hundred Years War of conquest and subjugation on the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the Fire Nation Army is perhaps the most experienced force on this list when it comes to war. Swiftly eradicating the Air Nomads, invading and occupying the Earth Kingdom, and pushing the Water Tribes to their strongholds in the North and South Poles, the Fire Nation is also one of the most effective armies on this list. Due to the Fire Nation's attraction to industry and militarism, it is the most advanced army in the Avatar series showcasing a unified steampunk-esque force that is unparalleled on the battlefield.
It's soldiers also are cable of fire-bending, eliminating the need for weapons like swords and giving them an advantage over guns and bows and arrows because they don't need to reload on bullets or arrows. Aside from fire-bending, and in homage to the shows asiatic themes, the soldiers are also skilled in hand to hand martial arts-style combat. Still their strength lies in their technological advances including their land seige weapons, including tanks, as well as fleets of airships and naval battleships which help them exert constant control over their sprawling empire.
Thus the Fire Nation can wage a large-scale war on land, in the air, and even at sea. Their technological advantages give them an edge when compared to the other armies on this list and their experienced and fire-bending soldiers also present a strong force that could be a blessing for their allies or a curse for their enemies.
4. The Chitauri Army
Given to Loki by Thanos the Mad Titan for his invasion of Earth, this army would be capable of going toe to toe with any of the other armies on our list. Causing widespread destruction in New York and quickly overwhelming the police force and even the Avengers, the Chitauri are not to be trifled with, especially under the leadership of Loki whose cunning and ruthlessness with his army make him a leader to rival Daenerys, not to mention his own arsenal of Leviathans to rival her dragons.
While the Chitauri aren't exactly an intelligent force, only really capable of mindless destruction, in this case that isn't exactly a disadvantage since their space weaponry, arsenal of gliders, and superhuman physiology make them dangerous individually. Their main strengths, however, lie in their overwhelming numbers, though that didn't necessarily mean victory for the orcs in the Hobbit. Still, their forces, like the Na'vi, can tackle foes on the ground and in the air with assaults backed by their fearsome leviathans.
Their main weakness is that they are controlled by a mother ship that if taken out, would render them incapable of fighting. Also because they are based in space they have only a small portal from the tesseract, similar to the mountain tunnels of the orcs in the Hobbit, through which they would need to slowly lead their army through. Despite these limitations, defeating the Chitauri one-on-one would be very difficult for any one of the armies on this list.
5. Humanity's Military: The Military Police, the Garrison Regiment, and the Survey Corps
Having faced bigger odds, literally, than any other army on this list, this military force is humanities last defense against the dreaded Titans threatening their existence on Attack on Titan. Existing in three branches: the Military Police (2000-5000) responsible for defending the inner wall of humanities last city; the Garrison Regiment (30,000) responsible for defending the outer walls; and the Scout Corps (~300) tasked with fighting the dreaded Titans outside the wall and establishing bases for humanity.
Equipped with their unique "maneuvering devices" allowing them limited mobility in areas with high structures, such as inner cities or dense forests with tall trees, the soldiers of the military are quite skilled in combat. However, even more to their advantage, the Scout Corps have shown that the soldiers can use their maneuvering devices on big moving targets, such as the Titans, meaning they could easily combat the air power of the other armies without their own air force.
Like the Na'vi, the humans of Attack on Titan have serious determination and drive stemming from their fight for survival against the Titans. Because of this determination to win and their superior fighting skills they are perhaps the most deadly soldiers on this list. This makes Military an invaluable ally or a skilled opponent on the battlefield.
So what do you think. Would these guys make for a great Battle of the Five Armies. Are they perfectly matched or are they ridiculous? Which army do you think would win?
(Because it was unfair to put them on this list, I might make a separate list of armies in space that should battle.)
