After the huge surprise that was "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" fans have been head over heels for the characters next solo film, late last year it was confirmed that the third film in the series will be "CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR" and will also star Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man. The film is building a huge cast, mainly from returning faces in the MCU, Black Widow, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Hawkeye and also Black Panther and possibly Spider-Man are all going to be in the film.
Fans of the comics know that "CIVIL WAR" is a MAJOR deal and are pretty aware of whats about to go down, but now Marvel have revealed an official synopsis for the upcoming film.
Following the events of Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic battle between former allies.
This synopsis is what the fans expected but if I wasn't so well versed in this universe and had no idea about "CIVIL WAR" then I would be losing my mind! Iron Man vs Captain America? Bring it on!
In the "Civil War" graphic novel, the government puts out the superhero registration act and forces all heroes to give up their secret identities so that they can remain under regulation. But because of the lack of secret identities in the MCU, fans suspected that this won't be the case in the film. Captain America fights alongside heroes who are against this act and Tony fights for the act with his alliance of heroes.
We all pretty much guessed that the government will form this act due to the events caused in "Age Of Ultron", Tony of course creates Ultron so the end of the world scenario in that film is sort of Tony's fault.
Captain America no longer trusts the government after HYDRA had infiltrated SHIELD in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" so I'm suspecting that he is the one who forms an alliance against the superhero registration act and Tony is fighting for it similar to in the comic book.
This project has been perhaps the most exciting in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, its really going to transform the current Marvel landscape, having the two lead Avengers go head to head. Fans of the comics should be pleased as this sounds like its staying as true to the source material as it possibly can.
Anthony and Joe Russo are of course returning to direct this film after the utterly remarkable job they did on the previous Captain America stand alone film. I'd say its safe to expect some more social commentary which they nailed in the last film. "The Winter Soldier" in my opinion is the best thing Marvel has ever done, it elevated this cinematic universe to a whole new level, lets hope they do the same thing with "Civil War".
"Captain America: Civil War" begins shooting in two weeks and will be released on May 6th 2016!
