French Director Pierre Morel of great action films such as Taken and District B13 has released today THE GUNMAN starring Sean Penn as a mercenary sniper who successfully completes a assassination contract in the Congo and is forced to leave his personal life behind immediately after and go under the radar as the heat is too much. 8 years later he returns to the Congo working for an NGO trying to do right and putting his past behind him only to be the target of a hit squad himself. Now its back into hiding with mission to find out who and why there is a price on his head while everything and everyone he knows around him is put in jeopardy.
Moviepilot offered me the chance to attend the LA premiere last week as well as the afterparty so i obviously accepted the chance to have some much needed fun and to see Sean Penn kick some ass! Here's the brief coverage of how it all went down.
The good news for me is i already live in North Hollywood so the drive to the Regal LA Live Stadium 14 wasn't that far away. Its always nice to pass by the legendary Capitol Records tower.
Getting closer! Taking my turn...
Made it! As I walked across from parking i had to stop and take this picture. The lights looked really cool and there was a huuuuge line of fans waiting to get in to the right that went all the way around the theatre! Thankfully I didnt' have to stand in that line.
While I didn't have a press pass this time, I did try my best to stay near the red carpet hoping to catch some celebrities before security asked me to leave the area.
As the press continued to be ready, a few SUV's started to pull up curbside to unload its passengers.
Security made everyone clear the area and migrated us all into the theatre lobby so the movie can start but I was able to snap this first. I heard the press yell out "Connor" but i wasn't able to confirm the actors identify as he's not listed in any credits for the film itself but none the less he's a actor and its the red carpet so he's important!
It's a chandelier! Not that entertaining I know but there wasn't much else to take pictures of in the lobby but i thought this was cool anyway, feel free to try to find Waldo in the crowd (There's no Waldo).
After I made it up the stairs and was escorted to my seats in the balcony, the director Pierre Morel himself came out to introduce the premiere. He gave a brief mention on how it was to film this movie and how great it was to work with Sean Penn. He thanked him personally as Penn sat in the crowd below me.
An attempt of a close up shot of Morel in low lit conditions from my view. If you squint your eyes it will help make it a better image and me not feel as bad.
After the movie ended and the audience stopped cheering, I managed to escape the fleet of movie goers as i had to now go to Wolfgang Pucks WP24 for the after party. After getting lost and going through a very cooly lit hallway i discovered it was in a hotel! The Ritz Carlton to be exact, on the 24th floor.
Thankfully my date and I had our pass for attending this exclusive event as security was very well organized and they only took up groups of people in the elevator one at a time. I felt like I was visiting some secret agency and pictures were not allowed at this point. The sweat started to form on my brow as i grew nervous on the way up...
Once I made it up, I saw really high end decor and observed how large and elegant the place was. We made it through what I thought was the whole place only to find out there was more rooms to it, this restaurant was huge! The staff was on point and beyond excellent service with tons of fancy finger food being offered as well as drinks. I was able to get myself a Long Island to relax and admire the view outside from the large glass windows that surrounded us. I'm glad I suited up as everyone there was in high end fashion looking great as ever. The highlight for me here while I appreciated everything that was offered were these little mini burgers! ( I know i broke the no photo rule) Look at them though!
Overall the experience i had was awesome as always with Moviepilot, The Gunman and WP24. A great night and many thanks in return!
