The Avengers have emerged in the last 5 years or so as the Superhero Team(sorry not sorry Justice League). The main reason for this is in large part due to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In recasting the Avengers the actors have to bring the same charisma and care that the original actors have, while honoring the roots of the characters. Also in creating this list I'm looking for actors who are either poised to breakthrough or actors you could build a franchise around. So lets start off with the first avenger(Captain America).
Chris Evans has done a wonderful job portraying Cap. I remember when he first was cast, I thought it was such a boring choice. It was the choice everybody saw coming and I was hoping that it would be somebody else. Needless to say Evans has hit it out of the park and has emerged as Cap. In recasting Cap you are going to need someone who can portray the calmness of a solider, while also keeping a idealist view of America relevant, not to mention the man out time thing. So in my recast I turn to Diego Klattenhoff.
You may recognize him as F.B.I. Agent Donald Ressler from the Blacklist(which is a good show check it out). On the show he portrays an F.B.I. agent that is poised and is always ready to lead. He has also been in Homeland and Pacific Rim. He is an up and coming actor in my view and defiantly has the chops to take on Captain America. While he may only be 5'11" , he is more then capable in playing a big guy and one shouldn't knock his height either after all Tom hardy is 5'9" and he played Bane quite well. Next on the list is Tony Stark, himself.
Every once in a while you get an actor or actress who was born to play a role, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Tom Cruise as Maverick, Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. RDJ would fall into this category, he has become Tony Stark. In looking at how to recast this role, you would need someone who display the attitude of a child, the ladies man, and the right amount of crazy. To fill the role of the Tony Stark I turn to Joel McHale.
That's right Jeff Winger is going to be a superhero. You should probably recognize Joel McHale as Jeff Winger from Community. In that show he plays a character that is smart, a narcissist(sound familiar), and fancies himself a ladies man. All you need to do is give him a bunch of money and slap a goatee on him and you are ready to go. Next on the list is the big guy himself, the Hulk.
When it comes to the hulk, I think the key is to find the right actor to play Bruce Banner. Now I thought when it came to playing Bruce Banner Edward Norton did it best, but the hulk just didn't fit his character. This is where Ruffalo shines as one could see him easily turning into the Hulk. In playing Bruce someone has to play someone shy and unsure about himself, while being able to show some inner fortitude when a descion is made. In looking for my Bruce Banner I turn to the boy who lived.
Now before ya'll go screaming not Harry Potter. Daniel has turned into quite a good actor since his days as Harry Potter. He has done good work both in Horns and A Young Doctor's Notebook. I could easily see him playing the good doctor banner. He is also someone that knows what goes into building a franchise. Now onto the next big guy, Thor.
Now Chris Hemsworth can be put in the same category as RDJ in terms of the fact they were born to play their respective roles. Now as far as the character of Thor, you need an actor who can play an arrogant brave prince. In looking for an actor to play a prince one might turn to Game of Thrones as they offer a plethora of princes and kings. In this case you would be right, I now present Odinson, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
Apart from playing Jamie Lannister, he has had parts in Oblivion and a couple of bit parts including Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven. He is on the upswing and he has the tools to take on Thor. Now onto the marksman himself, Hawkeye.
Now in the comics Hawkeye is a wise cracking archer and a bit of a smart mouth, but is highly skilled. In the MCU Renner has played a highly skilled archer and thats it. He really hasn't had much character, but thats not entirely his fault due to script and screen time. This is probably where a big name actor could be used, simply because this character can be partnered with any of the avengers and it would work well. The actor who could do this is Jensen Ackles
While he may not be a big name, he is perfect to play Hawkeye. He has a quick wit and could perfectly capture the playfulness of Hawkeye. Furthermore he looks almost like the comic version of Hawkeye. This is a slam dunk pick(if I do say so myself). Now onto the Black Widow
While Johansson has done a good job portraying the Black Widow. There has always been a part of me that never felt she was right. The best way I could phrase it is, I never felt she could fully kick Hawkeye's Ass. To me their relationship is key in any Avengers Team up. In the film it seemed it would take a Hawkeye to be off his game(mind-control) to give Johansson a shot. Thats why for this pick its gotta be a women that could put several hundred men in the hospital and not even break a sweat.
Emily Blunt would be perfect in this role. In my opinion she is the best women action star on the planet. From her role in Edge of tomorrow to Looper. She would the perfect women to bring Natasha Romanoff. While there is some talk of her playing Captain Marvel, she would be much better off playing black widow. Now onto the spy of spies.
Now obviously Samuel L. Jackson has done a good job and looks just like Ultimate Nick Fury(they did model Ultimate Nick Fury after Samuel L. Jackson). In recasting Nick Fury its going to require an actor to be just as tough and untrustworthy. However in this case they might want to get someone younger to play Nick Fury as Samuel L. Jackson is in his 60s. For my choice I would chose Mahershala Ali.
Some of you might recognize him as Remy Danton from House of Cards. However He has also been in Hunger Games and Benjamin Button. As serving as Frank Underwood's master secret keeper in the last season of House of Cards He could easily portray the spy master himself Nick Fury.
While these may be my choices for a future Marvel Universe. For the most part the actors that Kevin Feige has choosen have been perfect and I would like to continue seeing them in their current role for years to come. Please comment below why or why not you would like to see these actors step into these roles.
