As my first page written on this site, I thought why not begin with my ideas for how to recast the Avengers. Now Marvel Studios has done an amazing job in bringing Stan Lee's creations to life. Picking and choosing actors who have done a mind blowing job in portraying these characters. But if they had to recreate these movies again, here is who I think could possibly do just as or maybe a better job in playing these iconic characters.
Captain America, being the leader of the Avengers, would require a person who has portrayed people from the early 1900's. Only one actor comes to mind who could do a good job with that.
Many may not think he is up to the task, but Ryan Gosling has played in many early 1900's roles. One of his best performances was in Gangster Squad. He played a great cop who wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty and who showed dedication to the cause. Captain America might make a perfect fit for Mr. Gosling. Don't worry Chris, your Cap is still number one in my book.
Robert Downey Jr. has played the Tony Stark we all could only dream of. Cracking smart puns on people, having fun with his job, and truly bringing Iron Man to life. But there is one other man, who has been a part of the Marvel Universe before, that might just be another perfect choice for this character.
Just looking at Colin Farrell, he has the look of Tony Stark already. In my book, he can pull off the look just as well as Robert Downey Jr. He already tried once to play a Marvel character (Bullseye) but it didn't really work. However he has done a swell job in the past of playing smart and inventive characters. If he was cast instead of Robert, I don't think I would of had any complaints.
THE HULK/BRUCE BANNER
I think the Hulk is probably the hardest person to find the perfect fit. You have to play someone who is almost none threatening in any way, until he begins to turn into the big guy. And Marvel had him already.
Edward Norton was perfect in my book. He looked like a scientist, he didn't seem like a fighter, and most of all, he looked like the Banner from the comic books. Now technically it was Norton's choice not to continue, but if he had, than Marvel would have been set. Sure Ruffalo isn't bad, but I still go with Norton all the way.
When I heard Chris Hemsworth was being cast as Thor, honestly I thought, "who is that?" But when I saw him play the Thunder God, I couldn't have chosen anyone better. But there was a rumor about one actor that I was hoping was true, cause he could have played the Thunderer just as well.
When I saw Brad Pitt in the movie Troy, he looked really good. And when I heard that he was considered for the part of Thor, I thought "good, he can do that." Just look at him, he has the build, and he has a past of playing demigods. Even though Pitt probably wouldn't do it anyway, he still would work if he put his mind to it.
This role was made for Scarlett Johanson. However the person who auditioned for the role before her may have worked just as well if not better.
Yes, I think she could have been Black Widow. She has done a great job staring in action films and could have pulled off a great Black Widow. Originally Emily Blunt tried for the role, but lost it, but if she did make it, I personally believe it would have been just as good. I can imagine her kicking butt with just her fists.
Clint Barton is not a difficult role to play. Ultra assassin, makes unusual jokes, and has the perfect aim. Jeremy Renner does all of that, but I think there is one who is equal to Mr. Renner.
Now I don't know much about this guy, but from what I've seen, I don't think he would be a bad fit for Hawkeye. He has great athletic ability, and he even looks the part. Maybe a little younger but hey, that never hurts. Although Jensen is still a newer actor in the spotlight, he may have the ability to play the archer.
Honestly, I prefer the original Nick Fury compared to the new one. Now the reason i say that is because in the comics when Nick first arrived, he was always in the action with the Avengers. He rarely watched from afar, and he liked to get his hands dirty. Now Sam Jackson's Fury isn't bad, but only one guy fits the description of the perfect Nick Fury.
Just look, put an eye patch, a few scars and we would have our Fury. Crowe is one of my favorite actors, and if I had to, I would put him in the seat of the head of SHIELD. Now Crowe has done spy movies, action movies, and so on, how is he not the perfect fit for Nick Fury.
Conclusion: So there you have it. Now even though these would be my reboot choice, I still am very happy with the Avengers of today. The upcoming film, Age of Ultron is one of my most anticipated movies of 2015. If these people became Marvel heroes one day, that would be amazing, but I will still continue to be a Marvel Comics fan. As the great Stan Lee is always saying, Excelsior!
