It is rumored that Rick is executing a member from his squad...Is it a new member, or an old member that's been with him through all the hard times since day one of the outbreak?
The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has a message for Daryl Dixon fans: No one is safe.
No one is safe, and he doesn't care if you riot.
Conventional wisdom is that Daryl Dixon and Rick Grimes are both fairly secure on the hit AMC series based on Kirkman's comic books--Rick because he's the lead character and Daryl because of his popularity with a very vocal fan base. Kirkman says, though, not to take anything quite so much on faith.
"I get a lot of hate mail every time I kill anybody in the comic, which always aggravates me because it's like, 'It's been a hundred issues! Don't know how this is by now? What are you doing?'" Kirkman told reporters assembeld after AMC's The Walking Dead panel earlier today at San Diego Comic Con International. "But specifically about the Daryl thing--that fan reaction is going to get him killed. I feel like it's a dare. Like, 'Oh, really? You're gonna riot? We'll see...we'll see. No one is safe."
He and showrunner Scott Gimple also joked that, if they were to kill a fan-favorite character just to make a point, they probably wouldn't be "safe" either.
"We may be unsafe afterwards," said Gimple. "I mean physically."
So is this a threat to kill off every fans favorite character?
"Daryl was created entirely for the television series, and replaced Tyrese as Rick's "best friend" type. Now that we've reintroduced Tyrese and brought him into the group, Daryl had to go."
Or are they too scared of the fans heated reaction to the idea off killing off the beloved Daryl Dixon?
Is Daryl Dixon as deadly as the walkers he so easily dispatches each week in the show? That’s the question that is being asked by some as yet another major character was killed off on The Walking Dead but this time it may have something to do with Daryl’s existence on the show.
If you missed the midseason premiere this season, then go back and watch it as spoilers lay ahead.
Last chance — okay.
On the midseason premiere of The Walking Dead, we saw Tyreese get killed off in agonizing fashion as it was basically 45 minutes of him dying. That may have something to do with the popularity of Daryl Dixon on the series as he effectively replaced Tyreese as Rick’s right hand man from the comic books.
But does this have to do with the direction of the show or the massive popularity that the character has amassed thanks to the series. Daryl is a big player in the comics but he’s reached a whole new level thanks to Norman Reedus’ portrayal of the character.
So is his existence on the show having more to do with his development as a character or the fear of backlash should he be killed off. There are Walking Dead fans and there are Daryl Dixon fans — who are some of the most rabidly loyal fans you’ll ever meet.
If I was a writer on The Walking Dead, I’d be nervous about killing off Daryl too as you don’t take sugar out of pop if that’s what people love about it. It may be totally healthy but you can’t take away a character as popular or powerful as Daryl without having a really good reason.
As much as it seems Daryl edging characters like Abraham and Tyreese out of the story is unfair and a case of writers being scared, the show truly is a case of survival of the fittest in every way, shape and form.
We're all waiting here patiently for the writer/creator of The Walking Dead to make a wise decision. If they decide to kill Daryl they have to at least make it a memorable and honorable death. they have to make us want to cry and smile at the same time because without Dixon and Grimes......(and even Carl) there wouldn't be a walking dead show today. And if the rumors are true about Rick ending the Dixon character.........it better be a good reason to do so.....otherwise fan will not be happy with their decision making.
Lets all hope for the best...
Every day I get tweets from people saying, ‘If you kill Daryl, we riot.’ I’ll say this: I would never kill a character just to shock the audience. It’s about finding further story. When Dale was killed that put Shane in motion, when Shane is trying to kill Rick, Rick ends up stepping up as leader, that puts his marriage in jeopardy. It affects Carl. Carl was also affected with Lori’s death. All these deaths are very meaningful. So if there was a story in which killing Rick or Daryl or Hershel or anybody, the Governor, Andrea, Maggie, really affected the surviving characters and led to other stories I would do it. That would obviously be a big deviation from the book but in my mind when I’ve said no one is safe, I’ve been 100 percent sincere.
I swear if Daryl dies I'll riot! I know he doesn't do it to shock the audience, but let's face it... it's shocking! I'll also admit that the show has been getting better and more intense even with all the crazy deaths. If Daryl does end up dying, there's really nothing we can do, we know that there will be more deaths by the time the season ends.
What do you think about killing off Rick to move the story? He is as main a character as you can get in the show.
