Contrary to earlier reports, the third installment in The Ring franchise, Rings, will be a sequel set 13 years after the original movie.
It had previously been reported by Bloody Disgusting that the movie would be a prequel set before the 2002 remake which starred Naomi Watts as a woman uncovering the mystery behind a haunted VHS tape.
The movie's director, F. Javier Gutierrez, took to twitter to trash the unfounded rumors, saying,
The joys of the social media age!
Plot details are being kept well under wraps but we do know that Alex Roe, best known for The 5th Wave, has scored the lead male role. Italian actress Matilda Lutz is also confirmed as a co-star.
Lutz has yet to star in a major American production and will be hoping Rings can catapult her to stardom.
Rings is in cinemas November 13, 2015.
Would you prefer 'Rings' to be a prequel or sequel?
