The Mother of Dragons and the Father of Action Films are standing tall and a little worse for wear on the cover of this month’s Empire in anticipation for Terminator Genisys, which has a bunch of new stills from the film inside. Luckily the aforementioned imagery has blessed the web early (via Coming Soon), giving our first good look at J.K. Simmons, and Arnie chilling in his set chair. Nice.

Diverting from the timeline that was established in James Cameron’s original films, [Terminator Genisys](movie:34872) will see John Connor send Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back as intended only to meet a completely different Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) to the one we know and love. Rather than the shaking like-a-leaf lass we met in the first film, he’s greeted to a well-trained war-ready woman who has been protected by Arnie’s T-800 who met the Mother of the Resistance when she was still a child. From here, a new battle plan must be executed for Sarah, Kyle and their shiny metal friend to stop Judgement Day and put an end to Skynet’s plans for good.

Ignoring the poorly spelled subtitle, I still have high hopes for this one. The cast is too good to be true, and the fact that Arnie is back in the role that made his career still gives me all sorts of nostalgic feels. I can only pray that this is a Terminator film that finally does the franchise some justice and doesn’t get lost on the shelf of shocking sequels like Terminator Salvation did.

Terminator Genisys will be travelling through time and onto your screens this year on July 1st, and will mark the first in a brand new trilogy. See how Arnie handles his old metallic alter-ego then. In the meantime, here’s that trailer again...
