Fargo season 1 may seem untouchable.
It was widely regarded, by critics and viewers, as one of the best seasons of 2014, won at the Emmy's and the Golden Globes and currently sits on an unfathomably positive review rate of 98% at Rotten Tomatoes!
But with season 2's filming already underway, and an incredible list of names signed on to star in the next installment, when it airs in Fall of this year it could even top that incredible debut!
Ted Danson to Star in Fargo 2
The original grumpy doctor (sorry Dr House, but Becker beat you to it!) and the friendly barman everyone wished they had at their local, Ted Danson is going to star in season 2 of Fargo.
Danson will play Hank Larsson, the Sheriff of Rock County in Minnesota and the father-in-law of Lou Solverson.
The writers have revealed that the only obvious connection to season 1 will be the presence of Solverson, previously played by Keith Carradine, but now to be played by Patrick Wilson (note: not a Wilson brother, but is great in things like Little Children and Watchmen) because season 2 will be set back in 1979.
Ted Danson will be a welcome addition to the Fargo family. Having played D.B Russell in CSI for the last few years we know Danson is a convincing mystery-solver and since he just is Ted Danson, we can be sure he will make for an entertaining lead.
Ronald Reagan to Play a Part in Fargo Season 2
When it was first announced that President Ronald Reagan would be part of season 2 of Fargo, many assumed he would be featured through archival footage or simply mentioned often by the characters.
But no, someone is going to play the controversial former President and he will be a "character" in the series!
It has not yet been announced who will play Reagan, so we are forced to speculate who could do the role justice as well as wondering how he will be a part of the show.
Patrick Wilson's Solverson will be a recently returned Vietnam vet in season 2 and the creators have stated that social issues such as feminism will be explored in the show. Perhaps the Reagan character will be on the campaign trail for the 1980 election and will feature in Minnesota as a voice for conservatism in this time of political upheaval.
Or, as many have suggested, Reagan's part in the season could be more sinister.
Brad Garrett, best known as Ray's brother from Everybody Loves Raymond, will star in season 2 of Fargo as a crime-boss that could potentially have links to the controversy-ridden candidate. This would be a risky move for the show's creators, to depict a former President as an outright dirty-candidate, but certainly nothing they couldn't handle.
The Cast of Fargo 2 Just Keeps Getting Better
Along with Wilson, Danson and Garrett, Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson from [Parks and Recreation](series:214218)) , Jeffrey Donovan (from [Burn Notice](series:721004) , Kirsten Dunst (in her first regular role in a TV series) and Jean Smart (from, amongst many things, Designing Women and Frasier) are just some of the stars set to feature in season 2 of Fargo.
Offerman will play Karl Weather, the town lawyer in Luverne, Minnesota where the season will be set. According to Offerman, "He likes to have a good time” which will be a nice change for the star that has played the hilarious, yet rather fun-averse, Swanson for the past 5 years.
Kirsten Dunst will play a similar role to that which she did to perfection in the 1999 cult classic Drop Dead Gorgeous. Dunst is set to play Peggy Blomquist, a beautician struggling with the expectations of society in late 70s small town America. Dunst will be joined by [Friday Night Lights](movie:395109) star Jesse Plemons, who will play her supportive husband that tries his best to understand her path of self-discovery.
Do you think season 2 could even possibly be better than season 1? Are you looking forward to the next installment of [Fargo](series:1076400) ? Finally, the big question, who do you think should play Ronald Reagan?
