Shannen Doherty to Return for Kevin Smith's Mallrats 2
Kevin Smith has tweeted a confirmation that Shannen Doherty will return to reprise her role of Rene Mosier for the upcoming Mallrats sequel.
Mallrats, a story of two best friends who are both dumped by their girlfriends, seeking refuge in the local mall, was released in 1995 and was both written and directed by Kevin Smith.
"5 down," refers to Doherty, Stan Lee, Michael Rooker, Jason Mewes and Smith himself confirmed for returning in the sequel.
While there are seven more actors that could return, but that have not been confirmed for Mallrats 2: Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Claire Forlani, Joey Lauren Adams, Renee Humphreys, Ethan Suplee and Ben Affleck are all hanging in the distance.
Doherty has also confirmed this on Kevin Smith’s 'Hollywood Babble-On' podcast during a surprise appearance, which was recorded in Canada where she was appearing at a fan expo. When Smith asked her if she was going to be in the movie, she replied, “f**k yeah.”
"This is special to me because it was Shando herself who single-handedly got MALLRATS the green-light back in '95! So Rene returns, as the RATS roll call continues! 5 down and 7 to go! Collect 'em all!"
Smith says on his Facebook page.
Mallrats 2 will be the third time Smith has worked with Doherty, who made a Scream-esque cameo in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
“Lately I’ve been doing this thing where I’m like, ‘Do you want to do what’s good for your career, or do you just want to have fun?’ Nobody’s clamoring for a Mallrats sequel, but I would love to make one. It’s been like 20 years. It’s half a script right now, and we’re pulling our loot together. I had a cool idea and a bunch of investors that were like, ‘Do it,’ so here we are.”
says Smith about doing another Mallrats.
