It's the little mysteries in movies that stimulate conversations and have us re-watching them, in hopes of finding their answers. However, was there a pressing question that kept you up at night? Okay, maybe not "kept you up," but at least had you dying to know the truth? Well, below are eight questions compiled from Disney movies that had me guessing and maybe, you too.
Warning, the purpose of this article was to just have fun. So, don't be such a fucking tight ass. 'Kay? ;)
7. How did Iago Survive?
Don't get me wrong, his voice may be grating, but I enjoyed Iago in Aladdin. Yet, having seen the sequel I always wondered how Iago managed to survive in the genie lamp? Since, Jafar was turned into a genie his temporary residence would be no problem for him other than being cramped, but for Iago not only would there be no air, but being stuck inside for months would also mean no water or food either. Not to mention how many bones he must (should) have broken being squashed inside there. True, it's most likely me over-thinking. And it's rare for a neutral character to die. Yet, as a kid I couldn't get this out of my head.
6. Where's Maid Marian?
Half of Robin Hood was building up to Robin and Maid Marian being reunited. And when it finally happens it's a sweet moment that leads to a romantic song and the last time they're seen together is at a surprise party in Sherwood Forest. You'd think with a chunk of the film's time being devoted to them, we'd at least see a scene of Maid Marian and Robin interacting before or during the prison break.
It's like, "I'll see you at the wedding if you don't die." I always wished that they would have made a sequel and would have given Maid Marian a bigger role. Maybe, in-between movies Robin could train her into becoming an efficient archer and she'd join him on his adventures. Yet, I'm getting off topic.
5. Who or What Caused that Drought in The Lion King?
When Simba returns he sees his beloved Pride Rock barren of life. The movie seems to imply Scar is responsible, or it's an allegory of his actions resulting in an imbalance in the food chain and nature.
Yet, could he have really screwed up that bad for Pride Rock to end up like this? Droughts aren't uncommon in Africa, so Scar (despite his horrendous actions) might be unfairly blamed. We'll never know, but at least the land made a comeback.
4. Is She Quasimodo's Biological Mother?
This is just a theory and another case of over-contemplating. Yet, his mother and him share very few, if any physical traits. They don't share the same skin tone, eye or hair color. It's possible his skin could have become fair from hiding in the bell tower for all of those years and he simply resembles his father more.
However, black hair is a dominant trait while red hair is recessive. So, being her son Quasi would have most likely ended up with black hair. Regardless, if she adopted or gave birth to him she proved to be a selfless mother as she risked her own skin to save Quasi.
3. Why was Ursula Banished?
In The Little Mermaid, we're first introduced to Ursula as she's sulking in her lair. She mentions being kicked out of Triton's castle, but no one explains why.
During her song "Poor Unfortunate Souls" she talks about being bad in the past, called a witch and reforming her ways. It seems that she must have fowled up on more than one occurrence. And in a deleted scene Ariel mentioned that Ursula tried to overthrow her father, but considering it was omitted this is of course not considered cannon.
2. How Did Elsa Get Her Ice Powers?
The source of Elsa's powers in [Frozen](movie:411685) are unknown. However, what we do know is that it's an ancient ability and she was born with them.
But, could they have been passed on from her father's side? Think about it, he knew who to see when Anna was hit by Elsa's ice blast and had that cryptic book on his person. And when he was teaching her how to control her ice powers, he seemed to have some experience with the matter and knew gloves would help.
If this is true, then how did his family receive this supernatural gift?
Maybe we'll find out in [Frozen 2](movie:2481986).
1. Who's Chip's Father?
So, is there a Mr. Potts? Like his mother, Chip is a household object as a result of a curse placed on the castle and its inhabitants. And seeing as there's no mention of a husband or boyfriend, who could be Chip's father? It's possible that Mr. Potts could have been turned into a tea pot himself and sometime after the transformation he fell over one day. Yet, she hasn't said one word about him. Two other popular guesses could be Cogsworth or Lumiere! Perhaps the upcoming [Beauty and the Beast](movie:362071) film will tell us more...
Cogsworth could be the dad, as he and Chip share the same nose. However, Lumiere is quite the casanova. So, maybe he and Mrs. Potts got busy one night and... (now my head is polluted with an image of them getting it on). Yet, despite both being skinny there seems to be nothing else. In reality, it could have been any man there - except for Beast, since he was only eleven before the hex took place. Speaking of which, Mrs. Potts has other children, where did THEY come from?
