Bradley Cooper is in the deals for his debut as a director. The subject of this debate is the 'A Star is Born' remake, which Warner Bros. has had planned for quite some time now.
The movie, which will be based on the 1937 film with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March in lead roles, is about a famous actor celebrity who helps a young actress rise to fame, although his career is steeply rolling down because of his age and alcohol addiction.
Warner Bros. has been working on the remake for several years. Clint Eastwood, who directed Cooper's 'American Sniper', has been tied to this project since 2011. At one point, even Beyoncé was involved, but everything was brought to a halt when she became pregnant and Eastwood switched to some other projects.
The film 'A Star is Born' from the director William A. Wellman was very successful. Out of 8 nominations for an Oscar, he won two (for the best script and an honorary Oscar for photography), so it already got its remake, two times even! Firstly in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, who, for their roles, won the Golden Globes.
The second one, with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, was released in 1976 and was directed by Frank Pierson. The film won five Golden Globe awards, including the one for the best film, as well as an Oscar for the best original song - 'Evergreen', performed by Streisand.
