The Order: 1886 is going to be one of the most contentious games of the year. Everyone is entitled to their opinion within the art form of Video Games, such is the joy of art! Many players out there saw great potential in [The Order: 1886](tag:2707754), I was simply one of those that really disliked it. Or rather, I found it boring. But perhaps The Order: 1887 could be out to fix that!
But from IGN and Gamespot, to Eurogamer and Kotaku, almost every gaming publication has compared Sony's attempt at a cover-based shooter to Microsoft's [Gears of War](movie:671276). There can be no denying that Sony have long since searched for a successful shooting franchise on the PS3 and now with the PS4. Killzone made a good attempt, and Resistance had its time in the sun (love those games), but none of them have caught on like Microsoft's [Halo](movie:559680) or Gears of War.
Sony certainly have their own style. Bloodborne just received its release date (it is unbelievably good by the way), and it feels like a title that belongs on the likes of the PS4. Perhaps their search for the ultimate shooter franchise will be in vain, but that's okay. Especially since Gears of War 4 is coming to blow everything else out of the water!
Gears of War 4 - Taking Back its Rightful Place
I gotta say, Gears of War holds a special place in my heart. It was the first title I ever played on the Xbox 360, and it welcomed me to a new generation of gaming. I was blown away and instantly hooked. Therefore, the return of Gears of War with GoW4 from Black Tusk on the XBOX One is a semblance of hope. Especially for couch co-op, which might be included once more!
As we're aware, Gears of War 4 will be gearing up for some form of betrayal, in that our expectations will be met with a Gears game we haven't experienced yet. The formula is going to have to adapt to stay fresh and I seriously cannot wait to see even a glimpse of what Black Tusk have prepared. When it comes down to this ridiculous Xbox One and PS4 war, both companies have always had a reputation and their unique success stories.
In my opinion, Xbox has always had the superior shooters. Halo and Gears of War are essentially the best of their genres. While I've enjoyed my time with Sony and their PS consoles more, they each have their merits. That's why it can be so disheartening to see something like The Order: 1886 fail so badly at trying to pull off a steampunk Gears of War in Victorian London.
Maybe Sony can pull it off one day, lord knows they'll keep trying. But I seriously can't wait to see the lord of cover based shooters return to us once more! Gears of War 4 is nowhere near getting a release date for the Xbox One yet, though perhaps E3 will have some surprises in store.
Let us know what you thought of Gears of War over the years, Sony's shooters and The Order: 1886!
