Her name is Jubilation Lee. And, played by Lana Condor, she's now confirmed to appear in X-Men: Apocalypse!
The Mall Rat, as she's affectionately known, is a major figure in X-Men comics. Jubilee was introduced in 1989's 'Uncanny X-Men #244', and she soon settled into a role as Wolverine's sidekick. Her carefree attitude and explosive fireworks made for a fun addition to the X-Men family, and in the 1990s she really made the big-time as the initial focus character of the X-Men Animated Series.
As the years passed, Jubilee moved on to the tremendously popular Generation X series, but by the early 2000s she was fading out of sight. Incredibly, in the present-day she's... well... a vampire single-parent, but my instinct is that 'Secret Wars' will rewrite that. Yeah, comic books.
But what does this casting announcement mean for X-Men: Apocalypse?
Jubilee writes the timeline out completely
Forget everything you know about the X-Men timeline. Jubilee's previous appearances in the movies (played by Katrina Florence in X-Men and by Kea Wong in X2) just don't fit into this continuity. So all bets are off!
Jubilee could be a major character
Let's face it, not every casting choice is announced by Bryan Singer. So with any luck, Jubilee could be bringing some life and joy into the X-Men franchise.
Could Jubilee be Wolverine's sidekick again?
With Hugh Jackman seemingly committed to the role until the day he dies, is it possible Wolverine will be gaining a sidekick? It's the role Jubilee's most famous for occupying, and - as was proven in The Wolverine - a good sidekick brings out the best in Wolverine.
I admit to being a fan of Jubilee, so I can't wait to see what comes of this!
