If rumors are to be believed, there’s a chance that Captain Kirk could be running into a spot of bother with none other than Idris Elba, who is being pegged to play the big bad in the [Star Trek 3](movie:817262).

Variety has apparently been hailed the info that the actor is in talks for the role, but has no solid details on the character and how he’ll stir things up with the Enterprise and its crew. As far as we know, the script is being kept under lock, key and stun-set phaser by Doug Jung, and Scotty star Simon Pegg, who has also been tasked with writing duties.

It’s worth noting of course that our return to the strange new worlds of Star Trek will be handled by Fast and Furious 6 director, Justin Lin who will be relieving J.J. Abrams of command while he’s off in another galaxy doing something or other. Hopes are that Lin will be shoving an action-packed rocket up the engine of the Enterprise following its mixed reception when it returned with [Star Trek Into Darkness](movie:37722).

As well as Pegg returning to the bridge, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban and Zoe Saldana will also be making an appearance. Here’s hoping they make their next adventure a good one, when Star Trek appears off the starboard bow April 15, 2016.
