"Get Hard" is the newest comedy starring Will Ferrell, about a man training for his life in prison, Ferrell stars alongside comedy superstar Kevin Hart.
Ferrell has had some great, some not so good and some just plain awful, so lets take a look!
BLADES OF GLORY
This was a film that instantly became one of my favorite Ferrell movies, the story was good, the comedy was hilarious and the chemistry between Ferrell and so star Jon Heder was undeniable. A pair of figure skaters who began their journey as rivals but had to team up once both were stripped of their gold medals and permanently banned from the men's singles competition.
What shocked me is that not many people loved the movie as much as I did, and a lot of people have forgotten about the film in recent years. Directors Josh Gordon and Will Speck went on to do the also underrated "The Switch" which I also really enjoyed. The comedy only scored a 69% on Rotten Tomatoes.
THE OTHER GUYS
This buddy cop comedy was off to such a good start, spoofing the genre with Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L Jackson in the roles as the best cops in the force was hilarious, but as soon as they're out of the picture, the comedy became dry and the laughs were few and far between. I am genuinely surprised each and every time I hear someone say they loved "The Other Guys".
Ferrell played one of his more boring roles and Mark Wahlberg was frankly annoying, however there is one scene that had me wiping tears of laughter away from my eyes; "Aim for the bushes".
HIS BEST SCENE
"I was watching Cops" - Step Brothers
Step Brothers is a film packed full of utterly hilarious moments but this one takes the cake. When home alone Brennan (Ferrell) decides he'll have a go on his step brother's drums when strictly told by his step brother that he is not to do so. Take a look:
The Land Of The Lost
The Land Of The Lost had serious potential, but its dumb and lifeless script really let it down. The movie wasn't sure about what it wanted to be, at times there were some quite raunchy jokes, but then it would revert back to humor targeted at children, it was very confusing.
The film has mostly been forgotten thankfully, I'm sure this is one Ferrell would also like to forget about.
Now I know....a lot of you are going to be quite mad that "Anchorman" isn't my pick for Ferrell's best and as much as I adore that film, none of Ferrell's movies are funnier than "Step Brothers". The story of two 40 year old men still living at home is a funny concept to begin with, but then you get Will Ferrell and John C Reilly in the lead roles with a great supporting cast and one of the funniest scripts I've ever heard, and this is one that will be remembered for decades.
A pair of step brothers, Dale (Reilly) and Brennan (Ferrell) who despise each other and the life they now share together who set aside their differences for their mutual hatred of Brennan's older brother and begin a friendship that might be even more risky than their rivalry. To me this is the most quotable and rewatchable of Ferrell's films and at times has been my favorite comedy.
