HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Nathan Fillion!
Nathan Craig Fillion was born on March 27, 1971 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
In 1994, after working on several theatre, television, and film productions, Fillion moved to New York City where he got the role as Joey Buchanan on the soap opera, One Life to Live. In 1997, after being nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 1996, he left the show to pursue other things but would eventually return to the show for a guest stint in 2007.
Fillion originally tried out for the role of Angel, which went to David Boreanaz, but later starred as Caleb in the final five episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Nathan's movie credits include Dracula 2000, Slither, White Noise 2: The Light, Waitress, Super, Much Ado About Nothing, and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
There is also an extensive list of voice work including Robot Chicken and the Robot Chicken: DC Comics Special, Monsters University and more recently, Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as animated work on multiple DC projects like the Justice League series, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Justice League: Doom, and Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.
Fillion's massive list of TV credits comprise of Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, Miss Match, Lost, Drive, Desperate Housewives, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and recently had a small appearance on The Big Bang Theory.
But Fillion's resume also include voice work on games like Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, Destiny, and Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell.
Now here are my Top 2 Nathan Fillion roles (if you hadn't guessed by the titles omitted from the above lists!).
FIREFLY (2002-2003) / SERENITY (2005)
As if this wouldn't be on my list!
I originally watched this because Buffy had just ended and I was interested purely because of Joss Whedon but like most people, fell in love with it and was heartbroken when it was cancelled.
I think what made this so brilliant, for me, was the cast! Absolutely stellar!
Luckily enough though, we got a movie to go along with the show and wrap things up, something a lot of TV shows don't get the chance to do.
CASTLE (2009 - ?)
I couldn't even begin to imagine how hard it would have been to follow up Firefly and Serenity, especially with the fan base behind you.
But it appears that it turned out okay with Castle.
I was slow to get into this show but what won me over was the chemistry between Fillion and Stana Katic as well as Castle's humour.
Also an added bonus is the little Firefly easter eggs and cast appearances, including Gina Torres and Adam Baldwin, throughout the seasons.
