There are so many horror films that could actually happen, it's scary to think that what we are watching, someone you know or even yourself, could go through something like that and that's why these films are more than just entertainment, that's also the reason why we all feel the need to constantly say what we would of done or what they should of done, to avoid their horrifying fate! It's like we are conditioning ourselves by watching these film, but they also are scarier then your normal horror films because of the realism of them. They are also sometimes the more harder one's to watch, whether it's because you feel uncomfortable or disgusted, I've picked 12 for my list, although they are so many more out there the list could of gone on and on.
Cradle will fall (Baby Blues) 2008
Based on a true story of a mother who drowned her 5 kids in the bath tub.
This film is about a mother who has postpartum depression after having a baby and her struggles dealing with 4 kids on her own on a farm in the middle of nowhere, well her husbands working away as a truck driver, the mother snaps and the oldest boy then has to protect his siblings at any cost. The film disturbs the hell out of me, this film has some upsetting parts and it's very uncomfortable to watch, it isn't until after you get over the shocking scenes that you begin to appreciate what the cast went through to get that image across and horrifying real life can be, this film didn't get many good reviews as the people who watched it, couldn't understand why a film like this was aloud to be made in the first place and some couldn't even watch it all the way through. The ending was just so unbelievable it left you asking, Why?
I Spit on your grave 2010/ I Spit on your grave 2 (2013)
This films about a women who wants to get away to a quiet location to relax and work on her new book without distraction, although her being there distracts some unwanted attention from the locals, which leads to the main character being raped by a group of men with a graphic scene it highlights how terrifying, brutal and sadistic people can be. The second part of the film is about her getting her revenge, showing you how far people will go when they are push and she does some pretty horrific things but then they kind of deserve it, although you question whether she could actually pull off the revenge on them, the first part of the film is still very realistic.
I spit on your grave 2, is pretty much the same as the first film, just different revenge methods and different cast, so if you liked the first one you will also enjoy this one.
A film about backpackers being sold to people to be tortured and killed anyway they want, i think there is even someone who actually eats someone to death.
Yes maybe this will never happen and be a thing but the point is, it could be and that is why it's scary, what do we know, it could of turned into a real thing, you get all those people who do dumb sh*t and blame it on a film, 'But i thought i was in the Matrix', then why couldn't something like this become real? Who know's right?
The last house on the left 2009
This film is a bit like 'i spit on your grave', although it's not the girl who seeks revenge but the parent's this time. Two girls befriend the son of a father who is on the run from the cops, the son takes them back to his motel, big mistake as his dad comes home to find them, taking them hostage one girl gets killed the other manages to escape after being raped and makes it back home. On the run and nowhere to go there's a storm so they take refuge at a near by house, which turns out to be the girls parents. then the parents find out what they did. Again this is a terrifying situation that could actually happen!
The Human Centipede 2009 / The Human Centipede 2 2011
I know what your thinking why is this in the list, It stated in the film 100% Medically Accurate, but we all no this is NOT true. For a start he would of needed assistance with it all, you could of guarantee one of them, if not all would of died during the procedure with only the doctor doing this on his own, also if you didn't die from that you would a few hours later from infection cause by having your mouth to someone arse for a long period of time, yuk! but what is scary is the fact someone could be delusional enough to give it a go, as highlighted in 'The Human Centipede 2' when someone who is obsessed with the film gives it a go only using the tools from his toolbox! which actually seems more realistic than a mad Doctor, at least the doctor would of been aware of the risk in reality, but a parking lot attendant, wouldn't have the foggiest of what he was getting to, just that if he follows the film and his messed up dream he could have a Human Centipede himself and not just any Human Centipede a 12 person Human Centipede!
The Human Centipede 2
It was originally banned in the United Kingdom by the BBFC because of its "revolting" content but was eventually granted an 18 certificate after over 30 cuts were made. neat huh?
This film is about two girls, Lucie who was abducted 15 years ago and is hell bent on seeking revenge for the pain and torment her kidnappers put her through when she was 12 years old, the other girl Anna, her best friend from childhood who understands what she is going through as she was also subject to child abuse, she goes along to help her friend, but this film is not just about abusive kidnappers, it's darker than that, it's about religion and how far people will go to get answers, to find out if there is more than just life! They want to condition someone into a Martyr and how they do it, is worse than anything you've seen before. This wouldn't surprise me if religious cults actually practice this for real, it makes you think, everyone would love to know the answer to the second ultimate question 'What happens when you die?' but how far would you go to find it out!
Eden Lake (2008)
When Jenny and Steve decide to go on a romantic weekend get away to a quiet woodlands by the lake for some alone time, but they soon find out there's a group of chavs trolling the area making trouble and spoiling there time together, Steve confronts them about stealing the couple's belongings and vandalizes their car leaving them completely stranded, they get into a fight and Steve ends up badly injured, then the cat and mouse game begins as Jenny tries to find her way out of the woodlands to seek help. This film is portraying how gangs are seen and again it brings to light the horror of a real life situation.
About a dog with Rabies who traps a boy and his mother in the car after he's gone rabid, the story was inspired to Stephen King when he met his mechanic's intimidating dog while having his motorcycle repaired one day, this film shows you the true fear an animal attack can actually have on someone and what they would go through, so in reality it is much more frighting then the film 'IT' because you could actually experience this.
Storm warning 2007
A couple go out on a fishing boat, lose there way and a storm is fast approaching! They seek shelter at a house in the marsh lands which they soon find out the men who live there are farmer's and their main crop is Marijuana, discovering this turns their situation from bad to worse and the couple are taken hostage by the farmers and are tormented and beaten, but this film takes a unexpected twist, well the husbands injured and unable to do anything it's the wife who starts planing on how to escape the nightmare they got themselves into and what she does is brilliant and brutal at the same time, especially what she does with a jar! This film keeps it real and that's what i like about it, sometimes the more real it is, the more you can fear it!
The Strangers 2008
This film is inspired by true events. According to the FBI, there are an estimated 1.4 million violent crimes in America each year. On the night of February 11, 2005, Kristen McKay and James Hoyt left a friend's wedding reception and returned to the Hoyt family's summer home where film shows you what happens between the terrified couple and the strangers in masks. a terrifying event that can happen to anyone.
Would love to hear of the 'Could Happen' films you've enjoyed and why they frighten you?
