The X-Men: Day of Future Past actor hints that his latest outing as the clawed superhero might be his last.

Hugh Jackman has taken to Instagram to share some news about his future involvement in the X-Men franchise and it seems that the actor might not be returning as the clawed mutant after X-Men: Apocalypse.

"WOLVERINE ...ONE LAST TIME. HJ"

There have been rumours circulating for a while now that Jackman would be leaving the franchise soon but he recently told reporters that he wanted to play the clawed hero "until [he] dies". Unfortunately his latest news suggests that probably won't happen. It is still unclear whether the post refers to X-Men: Apocalypse or the untitled third Wolverine movie.

The Australian actor recently shared his doubts about doing Wolverine 3 which is set to arrive on March 3rd, 2017. Production is currently underway on Apocalypse so we'll have to wait for confirmation from 20th Century Fox as to whether a new actor will be taking his place soon - it is looking increasingly unlikely that he'll be making a ninth appearance though.

Jackman has played Wolverine eight times so far, including his upcoming performance in X-Men: Apocalypse and his brief cameo in X-Men: First Class. Do you think it's time for a change after his 14 years in the role? Have your say in the comments.

X-Men: Apocalypse is out May 27, 2016
