With Hugh Jackman tweeting that he will "pop the claws" one last time, who can we talk about playing Wolverine on the big screen. Can we even imagine anyone else playing Logan?
Finding the right actor to take over the mantle of an iconic character from someone who owned the role is an equation that has been repeated many times in history. James Bond, Dr. Who, Superman, Batman, Spiderman, etc. So it is not an impossible task to find someone who can "attempt" to wear the claws successfully after Hugh Jackman pops em for the last time.
I have compiled just a few ideas of who can "try" to play Wolverine. You will really never know how it will go when you cast someone new, especially right after an actor that defines the character but it has happened. After Michael Keaton, it took a few tries but we found Christian Bale. After Sean Connery we were treated to Roger Moore and NOW Daniel Craig. So lets talk about possible replacements.
If there is ONE man that is up to the task it is certainly TOM HARDY! Yea, you can argue his portrayal of BANE was either spot on or not, but look at that image above and tell me that ain't LOGAN.
ANDREW LINCOLN could be an option to play Logan onscreen. He certainly has the edge and the acting chops to pull it off, but can he convince fans? it's one thing to play Rick Grimes, it's another thing to play Wolverine.
He has the "mean little runt" feel to him, and maybe after some months in the gym he can come close. Yet, can Mark Sheppard be an option to play Wolverine?
If they want to go the "Old Man Logan" route, VIGGO MORTENSEN can surface as an option. He hasn't been seen much but we all remember the heart he displayed in LOTR, and he can do it again for Wolverine.
My personal choice to play Logan would be NORMAN REEDUS. There's talk that he will die in the season finale of the Walking Dead and we know he can be a total badass. The build and the grit is there, he's my choice!
Even though they killed him off in the comics, I don't think we'll see the end of Wolverine on the big screen. There is too much history left, too many stories to tell for there to be an end to Wolverine. So we will see someone new pop the claws, but will they do better than Hugh Jackman? Maybe....maybe not.
