(Warning: mild potential SPOILERS for Avengers: Age of Ultron lie below - proceed with caution...)

Now, with the soon-to-arrive (just a month to go now!) Avengers: Age of Ultron causing so much excitement among...more or less everyone, especially in the wake of Marvel's announcement of their Phase 3 slate, it's not too surprising that relatively little attention has been paid to just how the movie'll fit in with the Marvel Cinematic Universe that's gone before.

After all, we know that the main villain'll be Ultron - and that Civil War is coming soon after. What more do we need to know?

Well, as it turns out:

We're About to See Some Major MCU Villains Return

Or, at least, see a whole lot of what made them dangerous in the first place. The villains in question?

The Chitauri...

(Otherwise known as 'those aliens who're in The Avengers because Fox have the rights to the Skrulls').

How Could They Tie in to Age of Ultron, Though?

Well, the key to that lies in a couple of pages from one of the 'Junior Novels' written to accompany Age of Ultron - which, it just so happens, completely reveal what we're set to see the Avengers face in the central European nation of Sokovia (where they look set to first meet Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver).

Specifically?

Some Intensely Bad-Ass Chitauri Armor

As well as:

Some Lethally Retro-Fitted Tanks

All of which seems to suggest that while The Hulk was busy doing this:

A certain Baron Von Strucker...

...was doing a whole lot more than organizing meet and greets with Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch:

And, from the looks of things, we're set to see a whole lot of the explosive results in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

So, bad luck on the whole 'getting horribly defeated by the Avengers' front, Chitauri - but on the plus side, your lethal technology lives on!

I mean...for now, at least...

What do you think, though?
