Aleira Avendaño has a waistline that brings the cartoonish proportions of Jessica Rabbit into the real world, but her extreme look is proof that 'beauty' really is suffering.
In order to achieve her minuscule 20 inch waist, Avendaño has worn a corset for 23 hours a day over the last six years, but she claims that she has grown to love the constricting garment.
Avendaño, who hails from Caracas in Venezuela, told The Mirror that:
I am completely obsessed with belts and corsets - I even sleep with them on. I love the feeling of pressure and only take it off for an hour a day to rest and to wash myself
Unsurprisingly, Avendaño's eye-popping figure attracts a wealth of attention every time she steps out of the door. The 25-year-old model explained that:
People stop what they’re doing and stare - everywhere I go I get attention. People shout at me in the street - they can’t believe that figure is real.
Although Avendaño is clearly made up with her waist training achievements, doctors are urging her to stop tight-lacing herself for the sake of her health. Dr. Andrés Ruiz spoke out to the press and said:
In my medical opinion she should stop this immediately. Thank God she has not done any damage so far but she should stop before it’s too late. It happens because the floating ribs at the bottom of the rib cage are easier to mold – it’s definitely possible to achieve this waist without surgery.
Not everyone has reacted to her undeniably extreme look in the positive spirit that Avendaño would hope though.
Looking so different has also subjected her to taunts and abuse as well as adoration when she walks through the streets in her home town. According to Avendaño:
They say that I’ve had too much surgery, that I don’t have ribs and that I’m a man. It is totally false – people even say that I am an extraterrestrial and a transsexual.
The model claims that wearing a tight corset for 23 hours a day is totally worth the happiness that it brings her. She explained:
This is the best thing that has happened to me. I would like to be known for my waist, not for having the smallest waist in the world but rather for my waist and my entire body.
Who do you think wore the micro-waist better? Jessica Rabbit or her real life counterpart?
