Coming off the back of the heartbreaking fact that NBC's Heroes reboot Heroes Reborn will be devoid of Zachary Quinto and his portrayal of one of TV's most interesting bad guys, Heroes-fans everywhere will be buoyed by the awesome news that Hiro Nakamura will be making his return to the expansive universe!
Masi Oka will be reprising his role as the teleporting, time-traveling, katana-wielding badass in the 13 episode mini-series, and has expressed his (and our) delight at getting the chance to slip back into Hiro's fine cardigans:
“I’m excited to return to my Heroes roots. Hiro Nakamura was such an inspirational role to play, and I’m hoping the fans will enjoy seeing him back on TV.”
Heroes' creator and exec producer Tim Kring echoed the sentiment, and hoped that fans were as excited as he was at Hiro's return:
“We are thrilled to have Masi back in the ‘Heroes’ family. The character of Hiro Nakamura was such a huge part of the first series’ success, and a gigantic fan favorite. We felt the fans would really love seeing him back in action again.”
Though the word is Oka has only signed on as a guest star, I think this comes as great news for the returning series, as, for me personally, Hiro was the series' greatest character due to his down-to-earth, nerdy everyman tropes, teleportation and time-travel combined is a fiercely badass ability and who doesn't want to see a mild mannered, shy guy evolve into a soul-patched, sword fighting legend?
Aside from revealing the brilliant news, NBC also revealed in a tweet that Heroes Reborn will be airing on NBC this fall:
Nothing but good news in this article, I like that. I literally cannot wait for the series and its gang of enigmatic meta-humans to float, teleport and generally saunter back onto my TV, so in the mean time here's one of Hiro Nakamura's best moments from Heroes to really nail down the excitement:
Save The Cheerleader, Save The World
Masi Oka will be joined by an also returning Jack Coleman (Noah Bennet a.k.a. Horn Rimmed Glasses Guy), Zachary Levi (Chuck, Thor: The Dark World), Robbie Kay (Once Upon A Time) and Ryan Guzman (The Boy Next Door).
Heroes will be Reborn on NBC this Fall.
How excited are you for Hiro's return?
