With the success of movies like Alice in Wonderland, [Maleficent](movie:39352), [Cinderella](movie:373064) and the upcoming [Beauty and the Beast](movie:362071) - true, it's not even out yet, but I have no doubts that it will be a massive hit - according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Mulan will be the next to join the ranks of Disney movies given the live-action treatment!

Disney reportedly purchased a script focusing on Hua Mulan, the legendary Chinese warrior and protagonist from Disney's 1998 animated film Mulan, from screenwriting team Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek. The film will also be produced by Chris Bender and J.C. Spin (We're the Millers, The Butterfly Effect).

While there's no way to know how much this film will resemble the 1998 animated feature, maybe it will focus more on the traditional tales! But for now, we can imagine that some of the familiar characters will make a live-action appearance. With that in mind, let's get into another Moviepilot fancasting to see who should step into Mulan's shoes!

Arden Cho as Mulan

I know that a lot of people will be pulling for [Once Upon a Time](series:720994)'s Jamie Chung to make the switch from the show to the feature film as the live-action Mulan. While I think she's perfectly suited for the role, why not give another actress a chance? My pick, as was inspired by Fanny Knutsson's Disney fancasting post, would have to be [Teen Wolf](series:721002)'s sword-wielding Kira, Arden Cho.

Cho is cute, funny, and definitely feisty. Not to mention, she has a beautiful singing voice if they do decide to let the role take a musical turn.

Godfrey Gao as Li Shang

Honestly, I would let Li Shang's character make a man out of me any day, which is why he has to be equal parts tough and suave. I've said it before and I'll say it again, actor, model, and nearly flawless human specimen Godfrey Gao would be fantastic in this role.

Sure, he doesn't have a huge catalogue of acting credits to his name yet, his first American film debut wasn't until 2013 with The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, but that doesn't mean he's not deserving of mainstream success with Disney. I mean, look at that face!

David Lee McInnis as Shan Yu

Again, I've made this argument before, but I think that David Lee McInnis would play a great, and villainous Shang Yu.

The American-born actor has become extremely successful in South Korea and recently went on to play Lord Raiden in the second season of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series. Plus, with those strong brows he's already halfway to looking the part!

Ken Watanabe as Fa Zhou

I don't think I could have created this list without including the incredible Japanese actor, Ken Watanabe. Not only does he already have a long list of amazing acting achievements to his name, but he could perfectly play the proud, yet caring father to Mulan.

James Hong as the Emperor

James Hong is one of the most famous Asian-American actors alive, but that's not the only reason to cast him. Having over 500 credited TV and film roles, Hong is a true veteran in the industry. One of those roles actually makes him an alumni of the Mulan cast, as he played the voice of Chi Fu in the animated version. But now that 17 years have passed, I think that Hong could easily step into the late Pat Morita's role of the Emperor.

Eddie Murphy as Mushu

Speaking of re-casting voice actors from the 1998 film, I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that if Mushu does play a role in this live-action film, we can pretty safely assume that the dragon guardian will likely still be animated.

If that is the case, why not put the original actor in the role? I think Eddie Murphy played the comedic role perfectly and I have a pretty hard time imagining anyone else stepping into his voice acting shoes. If you can picture someone else in this role then dishonor on you! Dishonor on your cow!

What do you guys think of this Mulan fan casting? As always, these are simply my opinions and you guys are more than welcome to your own! So, who would you like to see fill these iconic animated Disney roles? Let me know in the comments section!
