According to Deadline, Jay Basu has been hired to write Sony Picture's Metal Gear Solid adaptation. Basu is currently an in-demand writer that is attached to help reboot Universal Picture's classic monster franchises. The Mummy, Wolfman, and Frankenstein are currently in early development.

Basu has written the script for Monsters: Dark Continent, a sequel to Gareth Evan's Monsters. The United States release is set for April 17th, 2015. It will release later in the United Kingdom May 1st.

Metal Gear Solid will star series original protagonist Solid Snake, a solider who infiltrates a nuclear weapons disposable facility on Shadow Moses Island to stop genetically enhanced terrorists known as FOXHOUND.

Avi and son Ari Arad will produce the film. Sony has also recruited Kings of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Jordan is currently filming Legendary Picture's Kong: Skull Island that will be released in 2017. Tom Hiddleston, Michael Keaton, and J.K. Simmons will star.
