It feels like it has been ages since we last saw Mads Mikkelsen's deliciously crazy Hannibal Lecter adding to his body count in the scariest show on TV, NBC's gothic nightmare Hannibal. Season 3 is still a couple months away from its June 4th premiere date, but there is plenty to get excited about in the meantime.

Hannibal Season 3 Trailer

First, have a taste of what's in store for Hannibal Lecter and Hugh Dancy’s Will Graham in this trailer for Hannibal's third season.

The amazing season 2 finale of Hannibal ended with Lecter possibly killing the two people FBI profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) cared about the most - his boss Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne has confirmed his return) and his on again off again girlfriend Alana Bloom. It looks like Will is at that stage of the grieving process that he's allowed himself to forgive Hannibal Lecter for these murders.

Hannibal & The Return of the Tooth Fairy

It probably has something to do with Will needing Hannibal's help with the main season three serial killer, The Tooth Fairy. Fans of the Thomas Harris books featuring Hannibal Lecter, especially the book that started it all "Red Dragon", will be familiar with The Tooth Fairy. This character has also showed up in the previous adaptations of Michael Mann's Manhunter and the Red Dragon movie from 2002.

The Tooth Fairy, aka Francis Dolarhyde, will be played by The Hobbit's Richard Armitage in season 3 of Hannibal. Those familiar with the character also know that Dolarhyde has a unfortunate blind girlfriend who is unaware of his hobbies. This character will show up in the new season in the form of actress Rutina Wesley, who played Tara in True Blood. If all goes as planned, she will most likely end up being in need of some serious saving by Will Graham.

Will Graham Can't Quit Hannibal Lecter

The "Red Dragon" is a reference to a character in a painting by William Blake that Dolarhyde is obsessed with and he's insane enough to think that the more people he kills, the more power he will absorb to transform himself into the Red Dragon of the painting. Of course it comes down the psychiatric brain of fellow serial killer Hannibal Lecter to help Will Graham put the pieces together and track down the Tooth Fairy.

Also confirmed for the upcoming third season of Hannibal is the return of Gillian Anderson as Hannibal Lecter's former shrink Dr. Du Marier - last seen being taken by Lecter as he fled from the scene after finally being uncovered by the FBI as the crazy cannibalistic killer he is. And it looks like Anderson will be setting up shop wherever they've relocated to as Zachary Quinto is also on board for the new season as a patient of Dr. Du Marier's.

Expect to Jump in Season 3 of Hannibal

What is surprising is that Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller has already revealed that the upcoming season will feature another year long time jump mid-way through that will reveal Will Graham as having found himself a wife, played by Tony award winning actress Nina Arianda, who is actively helping him through the wide-ranging issues he faces while dealing with these wackos. Good for you, Will!

Hannibal certainly left things in a huge cliffhanger situation last year. If you want to know how to best leave fans begging for more, look no further than the season finale episode "Mizumono". It will be interesting to see how Jack Crawford will respond to Hannibal Lecter getting away from him and leaving him for dead. But it appears Will Grahams fascination with Lecter has only intensified.
